City Of Hope Internship 2015

I sent out 3 so far and Im planning on sending out about 4 more I am soon stressed I just hope that they haven’t filled completely yet

@IMightBeAnEnigma I sent it to quite a lot of professors (about 10-15 maybe idk) only an hour after the 2nd round interview was sent, and I got 2 rejections soon after.

I just said I was interested in their lab and introduced myself!

I would probably email more people!

I haven’t heard back from a few professors for quite some time now, should I send a follow up email?

When did you send your emails? If i don’t hear back by saturday i will follow up

I sent them 50 minutes after the email was sent to me!

@thesheep787 so fast so furious lol

^^ same I sent like 6 within 30 mins of the invitation and have sent like 12 by now but heard back from only 3 so far

dang too fast too furious

@HuangoBango I was really surprised and happy, since I didn’t expect it
I have no science extracurriculars so I though I would have a big disadvantage

so that’s why I was rushing
also I happened to be at the school library at lunch

@thesheep787 understandable
I didn’t see the acceptance email until 3-4 hours after it was sent

Alright. So I sent in 7 emails total. But hey, I spent a long time on all of them. Researched what the professors did, their labs, their publications, etc. In the end, it took me almost 4 hours. So far, I heard back from 5. 4 rejections, 1 accepted me. No interview needed. He just wanted me to send in a CV and some work I’ve done before.

As for your emails, make it a point to talk about the mentor’s particular work. For example, one researcher did a lot of study on telomeres. I talked about my previous lab work and howbibwas interest in his particular work as I actually sequenced genes that expressed it (he rejected me). The body should be enough to convince any metors with OPEN positions to look at you.

I do have to say though, it bothers me a lot that the profesors seemed like they went on a “first come, first serve” basis…

Also, I emailed them all yesterday. Plus there’s other previous forums about how some people found labs days after. So idk I really think it depends on the mentor.

@Frinceton I did the same (looked up their research and talked about my interests, except I have no prior research experience, so whoops) for each email I sent out, but so far the professors who replied back had already found students the day the second-round acceptance email came out. I’m not really sure what to do next…guess it’s just a waiting game from here.

Yeah… I was lucky. My mentor already had someone and didn’t know if he could take another person. However, he asked the coordinator and I was able to be accepted. Most “research” experience you really need is just an honors bio class. My previous research was hilariously easy.

I would send out a couple more letters if you don’t have a particular lab you’re really into.

I sent in 10 emails yesterday. 2 Rejections so far and 1 maybe. Gosh these position fill up so quickly.

Ahh my research says he already has an undergrat and has to see if one of his post docs can take me
why you do dis to me?

I can’t believe it is on a first come first serve basis, I just checked there website and I can’t believe i didnt notice that…
Its really unscientific and counter-progress if they just choose whoever has the best internet connection and typing

I spent a lot of time researching the professors and so far out of the 6 I have sent I have been rejected by one saying while I am an excellent candidate they already found someone

Dude that blows
Right now I’m also stuck between a rock and a hard place and it sucks
