Does anyone know when the next round of decisions are coming out?
This week.
Hi, my son was accepted in late Jan. We have not received an AES letter yet, however, today on the portal I see the following info (below):
It looks like he was granted the Achievement Level Award. However, there is a tuition waiver component as well. Are they waiving the entire OOS tuition or just knocking it down to in state level.
Can anyone clarify the info. Thanks.

When preparing your financial aid award, we assumed that you will be eligible for a waiver of your out-of-state tuition. As of the time we prepared your financial aid award, we had not been notified officially that you will be receiving this waiver. Our anticipation of this waiver is based on your having previously received this waiver. By temporarily making this item a part of your financial aid award, we are preventing a situation where we offer you assistance from financial aid programs that we would need to rescind later. If you know you are not eligible for this waiver, you should notify your financial aid counselor.
My guess is that they are just knocking it down to the in state level of tuition. Plus the $3K per semester stipend.
Congratulations! It does mean that they should discount your tuition to an in state level and will apply $3000 per semester towards that. It will pay for about half of your tuition.
Thanks but honesty, we are disappointed. We were hoping for Distinction level AES given that he’s got the stats for it.
I know it is disappointing but every year the stats keep getting higher and it also might be part timing. This the second round or third round for AES scholarships. I do believe you might be able to appeal it for a higher level. I have heard of other students doing and some have been successful. I think it will depend on the number of students accepting this year.
@DemonDad Where on the portal? In “View Financial Aid”?
Asking just so I know where to look.
I went into the applicant center and clicked on accept/decline awards. However, I believe it is also accessible under view financial aid.
@DemonDad Sorry to hear. If you have any improvements on your son’s application you can make, update UTD about them and reappeal on that basis. Reappealing has been successful for a lot of people in the past for AES. Also, would you mind sharing your son’s stats particularly his rank and SAT, thanks!
SAT 1480, gpa 3.9 uw/4.3 w (no ranking at his HS), all 5s on APs, white male
My child got Distinction level for similar stats. We applied in September and received scholarship notification by November. UTD being rolling admissions, sooner the better.
@DemonDad White male? Your race doesn’t get you a better scholarship.
Looks like I got nothing (and I don’t see anyone here on CC, other than @DemonDad, who received anything in this round). There goes UTD.

[]New SAT: 1460 (680 ERW + 780 M)
[]SAT subject tests: 800 (Math2) and 790 (Physics)
[]10th grade: 95% ICSE (international applicant) - this translates to a 4.0 GPA
[]I had decent ECs (mainly in Computer Science) and a national level award.

Never been more disappointed.
@mundanewarrior did you try contacting the aes office and knowing the reason of your rejection? Secondly how did you convert your board percentage to American gpa?
@saitan. race is used by schools in merit awards. Race is used in admissions overall.
@mundanewarrior, I’m sorry. I hope you have some other good options. The averages are getting higher every year. I wonder since the state legislature is cutting back funding, approximately 13%, if that had an impact on the scholarships they could offer.
@GTAustin No, if they were to run out of funds, they wouldn’t extend the deadline. There’s something wrong with the AES and I’m certain of it.
I guess I will email them to ask why I didn’t qualify.
I haven’t applied to UT Dallas (found out about it only recently), but I am wondering if it is not too late to be considered for AES scholarship? I’m out of state if that matters
