class of 2011 ED pool size

AdmissionsDaniel
how big is the pool this year?
was there a huge increase like last year?

Of course theres going to be an increase. Every year more people apply and the admission rate decreases. I think ours (ED) is going to be 48%

Last year, the ED acceptance rate was 48%

this year it is going to drop even more...sooo many people from my school alone r applying ed there...

No idea yet. This is not an automatic process. We need to allow all the online applications to be processed and all the postmarked Nov. 15 applications to arrive and be processed before we have numbers on the size of the applicant pool. And even then I tend to not reveal admissions data until after decisions are released.

All I can say now is that we expect more ED applications this year than we had last year.

From The Johns Hopkins News-Letter on December 7, 2006:

[quote]
Following an increasing trend in competitiveness in the applicant pool, the Admissions office expects the early decision admit rate to be slightly lower than last year.
There were 997 early decision applicants this year compared to 1,004 last year. The admit rate last year was 48 percent: John Latting, director of undergraduate admissions, expects this year's admit rate to be around 45 percent.

sigh...check post on the other thread =(...stats from reg and ed applicants vary alot

can you link that article?

As far as the quotes from the News-Letter article...let me just highlight the use of the word "EXPECTED."

I will say it once again...nothing is final yet. We have one more week until decisions are finalized, and we have a ton of committee work still to be done. The admit rate will be lower, but the final determination will not be made until we have had the chance to do second, third, fourth, etc. reviews. We do have a sense of what we want to do, but that is after the first set of evaluations. Things do change.

So basically, don't think anything is final yet and don't get all hung up on statistics.

That small chart on the side of the newsletter -- wow. What an increase in applicants among the years!

The early decision group is very, very strong this year with regards to academics" Latting explained.
sigh i guess my above comment regarding the pool for ed based on cc stats profile was wrong...

yeah but he's not going to say the applicant pool is "average"

i doubt the actual complete population of ed applicants are avg...i think its just us...sigh >< ok enough speculation lol =D let's remain optimistic =D
