Welcome aboard Mightyrooster!! :-)

word of advice:

disregard atrmom's advice (sorry). you're going to be saying about 100 times a day chopping around the hall for the next year of your life. Enjoy being normal for the next 138 days or however long you have left to enjoy real college.

Congrats by the way. I know how you feel...and it's indescribable!

DMeix...joking.....

Way To Go Mightyrooster! Congrats!

What is "chopping"?

Oh, how I wish I remembered the exact Reef Points definition!

Chopping is the way Plebes are required to move around the halls in Bancroft Hall. It is basically a rigid run, more in-place than forward. Assuming things haven't changed, it involves bringing each leg up so the thigh is parallel to th deck prior to coming back down. Elbows are held against the sides and forearms are parallel to the deck. Back upright, chin in. When they reach a corner, they are required to cut the corner 90 degrees and sound off with something motivating like "Go Navy, sir!" or "Beat Army, sir!"

In short, it's an age-old Plebe Transportation System. ;)

There are actually steel plates set into the deck for the Plebes to cut their corners on so as not to wear out the tile. It's a favorite pastime of the upperclassmen to Pledge the plates nice and slick then watch the unsuspecting Plebes go rocketting off toward the horizon when they try and make a turn, not that I was ever so cruel, of course. :D

As you can imagine, having over a thousand people chopping down the halls and sounding off at each corner makes the Hall a noisy place at times. :)
