I am late in this game, but what I seem to be learning from reading these posts and info from others is that CM collected approx $80,000 in audition fees to fill approx 25 slots, 2 of which will be MT girls. Odds seem daunting and greed seems overbearing.

NotMamaRose---Thank-you so much for that up date. I was trying to figure out what that meant for days. Thanks- my mind is at ease for now.

Nash,
It is a seller's market, not a buyer's market. Nobody forces you to audition. Know the odds when you choose to apply to a school and plan accordingly and make choices that work for you.

Soozievt: You are correct on the economics. I wonder how many of the girls in the pool of over 1000 who were going for MT knew there were only 2 slots to fill? Perhaps we were the only ones who did not know.

I just figured that it made sense to go to the horse's mouth and ask, so I emailed a very nice young woman who works in admissions and answered some of my questions for Precollege. I know I am not the only "drama mama" who inquired, because this young lady said that someone else had messaged her last night about this.

Does anyone know when us MT kids may find out?

And I do not know if I missed this from the previous posts, but is it for SURE only going to be 2 slots for females this year?

Also, did any MT prospects get asked to do their monologues for another person after they did it with someone already?
Thanks :)

Hi Epo - I do believe that many kids auditioning perform their monologues and songs for more than one room of auditors. From what I've read on these thread, however, there have been students accepted in the past who were seen by only one auditor - I think they purposely make it impossible for us to figure this stuff out - Goodness knows, I 've tried!! Hang in there - I'm sure you did great! :)

From what I understand, last year the actors were notified first and then the MT people were notified. I think (and I may be wrong about this) that some people found out online that they were admitted and then were called, whereas others found out from the call.
Re: the truckload of kids who audition for CMU and whether they were all aware that there were so few spaces. I couldn't say for sure that people knew that there were only a very, very few spaces for MT females, but I think it's definitely true that anyone auditioning for CMU had to know that the odds against getting in are long ones, for sure. That said, even if there are only two slots, someone has to get in, right?
Epo, yes, a number of kids I know auditioning for MT got into all four rooms (five, if you count the dance audition ... but you probably shouldn't, as every MT hopeful had to dance!) I know kids who sang for both singing auditors and who did their monologues for both acting auditors. I realize that auditioners often think it's a good sign to be seen by more than one faculty member and that's probably true, but as my friend sualabama points out, it's still not failsafe to assume interest because of that. And the bottom line is that at this point, you guys who auditioned have done everything you can. The decision is in someone else's hands, as stressful as that is. Hang in there. It will all be over soon.:)

I'm trying to following this thread and went back to see if I missed something. Why is Carnegie Mellon only accepting 2 females for MT this year?

racmom, I am not even sure that's true, though that is the "word on the street." :) From what I have been able to piece together, it seems that several girls who were admitted last year could not, for various reasons, take their places in this year's freshmen class, so they deferred admission and will enter as freshmen (freshwomen?:)) in the Class of 2012. But again, this is all conjecture. The only people who know for sure are the faculty and administrators at CMU.

Thanks NMR - Wow! This process seems more daunting each time I read a new thread.

Rac....I can't recall all the reasons but for example I heard one of the girls accepted last year was in the Minnesota bridge collapse and is now out of rehabilitation.

Just an fyi -- a boy just posed on the Facebook MT 2012 thread that he just got an email from Gary Kline telling him he's been accepted for MT. So, if that indeed is the case, it sounds like the MT side is starting to make some progress. Good luck everyone!!

Does anyone know the status of MT acceptances--reading this thread it seems that a few students have been contacted for acting, maybe 1 for MT--but, hard to follow. Thanks

yes, i can confirm last year that one of the girls was in the 35W bridge accident, she deferred and will hopefully be able to come back this year, i heard that she had broken her back which i find quite impossible to be rehabilitated after a year. but you never know.

So besides the one boy accepted for MT, no one else has heard?

My D has a male friend who got accepted to CMU MT but he also got accepted to MT at UM, CCM, NYU, IWU,Webster, and BOCO so far. Do not know what he is doing yet.

I don't think BoCo has accepted anyone for MT yet.

I heard Webster start sending letters out in April.

When did he hear from CMU.
