^^California already!? Aghhh i was expecting it tomorrow, this gives me hope for today!!

did they only send acceptances and defferments out first? because I’ve noticed that noone has put rejected down yet

Im not sure how they did it. What I do know is that acceptance definitely comes in a big envelope as opposed to deferral/denial.

yeah but I mean people in california and texas have already gotten their acceptances/deferments and someone from my school got his deferment so it’s kinda weird that it’s not here yet lol grr

General Comments: So excited! Still have to hear from my reaches, but if all goes to plan & I get rejected I will be MORE than happy at Boston College :)

I’m the only one from my school that hasn’t heard yet and I’m really nervous

and I thought I had a pretty good chance :(

SAT: 2220 (720 CR, 740 WR, 760 M)
GPA: 4.3 W
Rank: 9/356
APs: Chem (4), US History (4), Stats (5), Eng Lang (5), Taken all accelerated classes at my school, this year taking BC Calc, AP Euro, Physics C, AP Eng Lit, AP French
EC: National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, AP Scholar with Honors, Won Science Fair, Junior and Senior Class President, Student Council President, Math Team Captain, Violin/Viola, Orchestra, Chamber Music, Music Theory, Music History, lots of volunteer hours, Tutor, cpr instructor for american heart association, etc.

I had really great letters of rec I think. Waived my rights but I trust my teachers. Also, had a letter from my principal. Had good essays I think…

Idk though, since I haven’t heard anything I’m pretty scared that it means rejection ):

@12lyncje: You can also apply to the honors program after your first year at BC, and in some highly unusual circumstances, after first semester at BC. If you have proven that you are a standout scholar at BC, and you have a strong interest in the program, in my experience, they will be happy to take you. Coming in second semester of freshman year is somewhat dependent on whether or not there is room in a seminar that spring.

Some of the Honors Program’s best students were not admitted through admissions. This may be a result of the fact that those who apply to be in the program, rather than simply accept the invitation, have the kind of intellectual curiosity that leads to success in the program. In any case, if you really have your heart set on a being a part of a small intellectual environment, and if you are willing to work very hard, you still have options.

Nothing in Tennessee yet…

Pick one:
Decision: Accepted to Carroll School of Management Honors Program

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): CR:730, W:770, M:800 (2300, one sitting which also happens to be my superscore, took the SATs 3 times; got the 2300 on my 3rd try)
[] ACT: Didn’t take
[] SAT II: Math IIC:780, US History:790
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): My school doesn’t do UW, but when I calculated it myself it was about 3.93
[] Weighted GPA: 4.51/5.4 (note: it is impossible to get a 5.4, highest is 4.9 due to how it is weighted)
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 17/267 (top 10%)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): US History (5); note: school only allows juniors and seniors to take APs, and there are only 1-3 AP classes available for juniors, and it is impossible to take 3 based on how the scheduling works (so 2 APs max for junior year)
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Gov, AP Bio, Honors Engineering, Phys Ed., AP Lit, AP Spanish, AP AB Calculus (pretty hard for my school; probably not the utmost hardest, but definitely pretty hard)
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended, George Washington University Alumni Book Award
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): [/li]Chess Club (4 years, president this year, secretary last year)
Stock Market Club- not a leader, but always finish in top 5
Spanish Club 2 years
Latin Club 4 years
Italian Club 2 years
JV Track and Field 1 year

[] Job/Work Experience: None
[] Volunteer/Community service:
Worked at a place called The Banyan, in South India, rehabilitating women that are mentally challenged and that were abandoned by their families. Worked their for only 3 weeks, but for a lot of hours.
Participated in Amnesty International gatherings; I’m an actual youth member.
[] Summer Activities:
Columbia Summer Program about Finance/Econ- did really well and got a nice recommendation.
[] Essays:
Common App = About how I have both Indian + American culture instilled in me; talked about how my dad was poor and worked his way up; talked about my interest in economics. It was somewhat generic I guess, but I really showed my love for business/finance and my two cultures.
[li] Teacher Recommendation: (wasn’t allowed to read any)[/li]English Teacher = I was relatively quiet in her class, but a lot of people ask her for recs, and she’s very experienced in them, so I think she wrote a good one. Plus, she made those who wanted recs write “brag sheets” so she can mention some stuff and get insight, and I wrote a really good one. I think she really connected with what I said and understood that I really enjoyed her class even though I wasn’t the loudest person in it…

US History Teacher = I’m not in any ECs with him, and he himself said that he might not be able to always write the best recs. But, a lot of people ask him too, so I’m sure he has some experience. I also think he likes me a lot, which is good. As you can tell, I didn’t connect with my junior year teachers as well as I should have and have with my previous teachers
[] Counselor Rec: Very good, I’m assuming. I’m one of her top students, and I have visited her a lot, so I think she likes me and wrote a great recommendation :).
[] Additional Rec: This one I did read, and it was by my Columbia professor. It was really good, it showed that I can handle high level economic/business classes, was a team player, and thrived in a difficult class about something I was interested in.
[li] Interview: Didn’t take one, not sure if they even offer interviews.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ (but born in India; I have a green card)
[] Country (if international applicant): Green card = not international (fortunately)
[] School Type: Competitive Public; midsize
[] Ethnicity: Asian (Indian)
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: $250,000+
[li] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):[/li]First generation college (and first generation in America, but I doubt the latter counts).

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essay, stats (test scores, rank, GPA, etc.)
[] Weaknesses: Extracurriculars; I would say amount of APs, but they probably knew that it was just the school’s policy, so it couldn’t have been that much of a disadvantage
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:[/li]Strong candidate. My stats are in the right place if not beyond, and I show great interest in what I want to do. I also showed interest in the college by visiting.

[/ul]General Comments:
Congratulations to those who got in, good luck to those deferred! I’m so excited! BC isn’t my first choice, but it’s definitely up there, especially since I got into the Honors college.

So unless BC offers me a merit scholarship, I hope to withdraw my app soon so as to make room for others! Good Luck to everyone wherever you end up!
