I talked more about the traditions and the overall mission of Wellesley as a college. I think 700 words is quite long but I guess as long as it’s well written and interesting it wont hurt you too much. I guess the bigger problem would be if you were really repetitive or went on a lot of tangents.

I have the same issue though =) There are so many things I love about Wellesley that it’s hard for me to compile it into one essay. When did you turn your application in?

I applied ED so I turned it in like October 30th haha. I talked about traditions too! And since I am majoring in history, I talked about a specific professor and his unique approach to teaching history. I also talked about that bucket list they had on their website as well as particular Wellesley goals that I really thought were reflective of my own. I think its hard to not over-write when you love a school so much!

Sure you can PM me yours! Do you mind reading mine too? Thankyou
My friend’s sister went there and she got in last year so she suggested I check out the school and after going through the website and youtubing them, I absolutely fell in love with the school!

My D has also applied to Wellesley… her 1st choice college! She’s interested in East Asian Studies and Int’l Relations. She also has a Japanese focus and plans to study abroad in Japan – just like UFOninja!

Abrayo - our family friend graduated in the past couple of years from Wellesley with a double-major in nueroscience and psychology and she thoroughly enjoyed her studies there.

D visited the campus for 3 days last spring and loved it. She planned to apply ED after about 2 hours on campus! She really enjoyed all the classes she sat in on and the professors she had meetings with. Our friend was working for the college at the time and hosted her.

We attended a Wellesley Club event in late October and met several really interesting local women who are alumnae. There was also an admissions rep at the event who gave a great presentation along with all the alumnae. D just had a 3-hour alumna interview last week. I have no idea what they talked about for so long but apparently they really enjoyed each other’s company! Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know how Wellesley looks at the Canadian grading system? Our A is from 80-100, B is 70-80 and so on, but would Wellesley consider that?

Cocolatte- with each application Wellesley receives, it also gets a high school profile of the school you’re from. So yes, Wellesley will consider it for sure because an A at one school may mean a B at another, and it is especially important with international students whose school grading systems are completely different

Yay I had my interview with Wellesley today! :D

We met at this cute little coffee shop and talked for about an hour. I was really surprised by how casual it was…she was wearing a sweater and wasn’t taking notes at all. In fact, she only asked me a few questions, like, “What do you think you can contribute to the Wellesley community?” and, “What do you think will be your biggest challenge at Wellesley?” The rest of the time it was like we were just having a casual conversation. At the end she said she would write a very good report for me, and that I seemed like I would be a great fit for Wellesley, and that she thought Wellesley would really be able to do a lot for me. Yay!!! I’m so happy, and I really hope I get accepted! :D

Did anyone else do their interview yet? Oh, and if the interviewer/interview coordinator hasn’t gotten back to you yet, I would recommend contacting Wellesley’s admissions office. This happened to me and when I contacted Wellesley about it it turned out that they had given me the wrong interview coordinator haha.

D had her alumna interview yesterday and said it was more informal (more conversational) than other interviews she has had. Wellesley Alumna make great admissions ambassadors!

I just filled out the form for my interview a few days ago, so I’m still waiting for a response. Are interviews not much of a factor in admissions then?

@penguin369
Noooo please don’t say that! My overall GPA and test scores are really lousy, so I’m totally depending on my interview and essays to save me from the deep, dark misery of the rejection pile!!! da da DUM

I’ve heard of people who have claimed that the interview saved them. Therefore, I’m assuming that it plays somewhat of a big part in the admissions. On the other hand, I’m pretty sure not having an interview won’t hurt you, as long as your grades and test scores are pretty solid. But if you’re on the fence an interview is what’s going to tip you into the acceptance pile, I think.

I met Lauren Dennis, assistant dean of admissions, and this is what she said about interviews- if the admissions board is on the fence about admitting you, your interview can potentially push you into the accept pile. It doesn’t “save” you, but it definitely will help as long as your interview went well.

Definitely do the interview. It is another expression of interest on your part. It can only help you. My D. went to Junior Open House, Discover Wellesley weekend, stayed overnight and interviewed! It reflects her intense interest in Wellesley. My only preparation with her was that I told her not to ask any question easily found on the Wellesley website and I did a mini mock interview with her as she had not been to any other interviews previously. She said her interview went “ok”. I think she ended up doing a lot of the talking. There will always be more qualified candidates than spots in the incoming class. Doing an interview is just one more way of setting yourself apart from other qualified candidates who might not be as seriously in love with Wellesley.

I just finished and sent in my Wellesley application yesterday for EE. Only about two more months until we find out!!! My interview coordinator said she’d get back to me by the end of December, so I’m still waiting for that though.

My supplement was 492 words. I’m applying EE too, and I’m so close to submitting my application! Unfortunately, Wellesley won’t let me submit it until I first submit my Art Supplement, grrrr. Thankfully my Wellesley supplement is submitted, and once I submit the Art Supplement all I have to do is press “submit” and then I’m done! :D

P.S. The reason the Art Supplement isn’t submitted yet is because I still have to record a couple pieces on flute Recording is such a pain for me; even though I can always do it again, I get super nervous and end up messing up, lol. To top it off I’m a perfectionist, so it can literally take me hours until I get a recording that I’m happy with.
