I live in Louisiana; it’s my financial safety.

Yeah, New Orleans is absolutely incredible, definitely the highlight of the state. The smorgasbord of French, Spanish, and Creole culture is fascinating, the nightlife is unbeatable, the city often feels like an 18th century one (architecturally and from observation when walking the streets), and Tulane is located in one of the best parts of NOLA, so that part of the equation is great in the sense that I don’t think you could find a better college town (well, Boston and NYC probably come close but I wouldn’t know).

If the anthro department is good and you seem to like everything, why not apply and come? I know they give lots of merit scholarships, and a good number of students are from the northeast, so it won’t feel too unfamiliar in the people sense. I would recommend it just because you’re not from here - being from LA, I’m not applying just because I’ve lived here my whole life and want to leave the state for college. But coming from somewhere where you do, if you like it, go for it.

I’m still trying to make a definitive list and probably won’t be sure until the late summer, but these are the dream schools I’m ogling so far (in no particular order)–

Brown, Stanford, Wellesley, Wesleyan, Smith, Barnard, George Washington University, Occidental, and Vassar

^_^ I’ll probably narrow it down later, and I have lovely matches and safeties in mind, but those are the ones I’d absolutely love to attend.

Scripps College
Pomona College
Occidental College
Soka University of America
Lewis & Clark College
Willamette University
Trinity University
Southwestern University

I’m jealous of all of you who are applying to your state schools. U Mich is literally like my dream school, and LSU sounds soo fun, but they are wayy too far away. I’m stuck with Rutgers blahh.

LUCKY. No, but a family friend’s son went there and his dad raves about it, and my cousin is going there so my whole family is telling me about it. It seems like the perfect mix of academics and partying/sports.
