Just saw my acceptance status!!! So thrilled!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm

dolphnlvr6 - I really don’t think intended major makes much difference at Tulane, since all students are admitted into the overarching Newcomb-Tulane College, not individual schools such as business or engineering. In theory I suppose if the school was seeing a disproportionate number of applicants and early acceptances going to intended science majors or business majors, it could influence later acceptances to keep a balance. In practice, I think that balance generally happens fairly naturally, especially at a school like Tulane that is well known for its liberal arts majors.

Besides, I emphasized intended because Tulane also knows students change their minds all the time, so there is little use in playing that game too much. Well over half of students change from their initially intended major, or so I have read.

Soakley - Congrats. It was clear how much you wanted this. Best of luck at Tulane.

SarahBradshaw - Care to elaborate? LOL.

My nephew was accepted yesterday (hopefully he will be joining my son who is a very happy freshman). I have heard of 3 EA applicants (all top students) who have been accepted so far, two of whom have received their official letters with $30K/yr merit offers. Congrats to those of you who have been accepted and good luck (and be patient) to those of you still waiting…

Congrats to your nephew, Jozuko!! Looks like they have increased merit from 27k to 30k. Excellent!

Thanks V. Nephew hasn’t gotten the letter yet, but we are hoping for the 30K. Now he has to get started on Paul Tulane and Dean’s Honors applications…

jozuko - Please confirm two things if you can. 1) Does the 30K specifically mention that it is the Presidential Scholarship Award? 99% that it is, but just to be sure they haven’t started calling it something else or made other changes; and 2) Are they still mentioning anything about the Honors Program. There were huge changes to the program, and I am not sure if they are still even making it something formal.

Hopefully you or someone else that got 30K can illuminate.

My friend whose D got the scholarship sent me a snap pic of the letter on my phone. It says: Presidential Scholar, $30K annually. It also says that in addition to being named a Presidential Scholar, you are also invited to become a member of the highly respected Tulane Honors program.

Thanks for checking that out. Now we just have to see what the other award amounts have changed to.

I just received info in a private message that someone got the Distinguished Scholar Award for $25K, which is the same as last year. Just FYI.

We are still waiting patiently but it’s only been 2 weeks since he submitted and app has not been marked complete yet. I’m trying not to get my hopes up. It’s a reach but its his dream school.

For those who have received a merit award or have friends/relatives that have, it would be interesting to see the stats, if possible. Name of award, amount given, UW GPA (W if UW is not available), test scores (either best one sitting or superscored), and number of AP courses already taken and in progress would be great. For GPA, if not on a 4.0 scale, please give the relevant info.

D received Distinguished Scholar Award - $25,000 and invitation to Honors program. Stats: 3.7/4.1

Fantastic donnahead. Your D is obviously a great student and a smart cookie. Best of luck.

Thanks FC! We have definitely benefitted from your sage wisdom and thoughtful insights over the last year (you and Tulane Jeff are our Tulane gurus). I think your willingness to help newbies in their quest for Tulane is quite admirable. This is my 3rd and youngest child, and I’m so happy to be “done” I can’t imagine wanting to revisit the chaos after the fact. You are a scholar and a gentleman. Thanks again for hanging out here and helping us all.

donnahead - Thanks for the kind words. It is always nice to hear that I could help in some small way.

2010er - Congrats to your son. Impressive stats.

Has anyone been having problems with their gibson today. Before today it was working fine and I could constantly check it to see if they made a decision, but now everytime I log on the screen says server error 404 - File or directory not found. I am already nervous about hearing back and this worries me even more. Just want to see if anyone else is having the same issue.

the site is undergoing maintenance.

okay, thanks. Did they give the time when it will be back up?
