From what i’m being told is that A&M College Station is handling the financial aid awards and will go through them. The NSC is a little confusing but as of right now I’m being told it will be at College Station and not Galveston. In a way it makes sense because even though my daughter is in the Engineering @ Galveston Program and will be at that Campus, she is still considered a College Station student in the system. This is a new program and so still working out the kinks. I’m just going to have to stay on top of it and feel it out as we go along this whole process. Any new information I get along the way, I’ll post it. Probably need to create a new thread for Engineering @ Galveston admission process.
Interesting! I got my decision letter through POSTAL mail today and it said that they are unable to provide me an admission this fall. I’m not upset but kind of shocked. I’m admitted to UT Austin, Purdue and many other schools. I guess I’m not a kind of student that A&M need.
Major: Computer Science
Date Applied: Nov 1st
International / Asian
Another weird thing is that my status on howdy webpage is still shown as under review. Why do I receive my result through postal mail before getting it online?
Anyways, Good luck and Congrats to those who are accepted!
@aggiedaughterENG have your daughter applied for housing? How much is it for a semester? Can you live off campus with your parents?
@LoveAM I talked to Galv last week, after placing deposit for a dorm. She said you can request “off campus” living. And I specifically asked about living with a parent down there. It sounded like it was a possibility, not a guarantee tho.
At the Engineering Preview day, we were told that all students must live on campus till age of 21. You can request it but it sounded like to me, would have to be an extreme special case for them to approve it. You never know, might as well try, worse they can say is no. I do know you can have a car.
created thread for Engineering at Galveston students if you guys want to post information that would be helpful for other students/parents that might have these questions etc. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/1865224-engineering-galveston-fall-2016-program.html#latest
Can you all keep the chat alive by posting financial awards, housing or nsc infos ? That would be awesome
Thank you for your help! @AGmomx2
if i click “my next steps” on my ais status page, am I committing and will I not be able to back out? I wanted to apply to housing, etc, but not completely sure if i want to go to a&m yet, although it is my top choice.
@dakw97 At the bottom of the AIS page, it has a button to cancel your admission and/or NSC. If you accept so you can get on the housing waitlist, you will be able to click that button and cancel if you later choose to not attend TAMU.
Is there a class of 2020 groupme?
My son applied Texas A & M , engineering at College station, but got an offer from Dwight Look engineering at Galveston.
He is an international student,we live outside of US, know nothing about this system. My son’s goal is to get into College station, what’s the chance for him to transfer to college station in the second year?
Appreciate if anyone can help us. We’ve sent an email to the school for enquiry , but they replied us that they don’t have any statistics.
It is a brand new program so they don’t have any statistics. It does provide for a guaranteed admission to your engineering major in College Station if you meet certain gpa requirements. There is a separate thread here with some people who attended the open house:
Remember that even the engineering students in College Station have to apply for their engineering major.
I see. Thank you for the information. So Could I assume it won’t be too difficult to transfer to college station after freshman year?
And after transfer to College station, and graduate there, will he gets a certification issued by Texas A & M, College station?
Hi Bluemoon3,
Thank you for the information. So could I assume that it won’t be too difficult for students to transfer to College station after the freshman year? We just want to know if this is an good offer ,if our destination is to get into college station.
And once transfer to college station and graduate there, will him get the graduation certification issued by Texas A &M, college station?
@“Fiona Pan” Starting out at Galveston won’t affect the degree conferred. Your son will get a TAMU College Station degree. He will need a 3.5 gpa (half A’s and half B’s) to transfer to College Station so he should strive for more A’s than B’s.
@PanFiona98 @“Fiona Pan” I’d be hesitant about entering a program where you have to have a 3.5 to guarantee transfer. That is a tough goal for a freshman engineering student. I believe a 3.5 is somewhere in the 75% range, in other words, only 1 out of 4 will achieve that. Look at post #1472…comment from department head of Marine Engineering saying that most will not make it. I think the decision should be made on if your son does not make a 3.5, will he be ok staying in Galveston?
That’s actually not true. A 3.5 will garuntee you into your FIRST choice major. They also said a 2.5 will get you into an engineering major, but it just won’t be your choice which.
@anthony62 Not sure if I would want to risk not getting your first choice major unless you have a good back-up plan.
I think a 3.5 to guarantee your first choice major is a bit ridiculous. Good luck to everyone!
The guarantee applies to all Dwight Look College Students including College Station and those that were admitted to Blinn Engineering academy when they applied to College Station.
All incoming Freshman are considered “general engineers” and follow that curriculum, especially Galveston/College Station students as they have the same classes being taught at both campuses. Everyone is on the same level playing field and all are competing for their spots. I know because that was one of the parent’s questions that was brought up. Even though say your child received an offer from Texas A&M College station " You’ve been admitted to Engineering" and your major was Aerospace and your campus is College Station, you won’t be taking any classes that have to do with Aerospace your first year. They will be asked to list their preferred majors 1-5 but no less than 3. If they under-perform and have like a 3.1 GPA, chances are they are going to lose their spot in Aerospace Engineering program and get bumped by other College Station Kids,Engineering Academy @ Blinn and Engineering @ Galveston kids that applied for that same major.
Like I stated in all my post on CC, it is your kid’s spot to lose and nothing is guaranteed. That I can guarantee. First part is getting accepted in Dwight Look College. That is hard enough as you can already tell with the long list of good candidates that didn’t get in. The 2nd part will be making it into their major of choice and going on to earn their degree in that major. It will not be easy and most students won’t achieve that goal unfortunately. I hope that everyone that made it in the program, through College Station/Galveston or Blinn Engineering Academy are successful and will earn their degree in which ever path they pursue engineering or otherwise.
