Class of 2020 Merit Scholarship Recipients

@RedYellowBlue same here for my son. ACT of 35, 3.8 GPA (unweighted), lots of EC.

@PhilaSkiMom good to know.

Keeping fingers crossed.

my dd just got accepted to the university. we don’t know a lot as she read it online. But I don’t think the application where you reported your grades asked for senior grades. Her GPA is higher after this first semester of senior yr. Will that impact the scholarship amount?

My daughter got accepted to Pitt in mid-December and was just notified this week she was awarded a $10K per year academic scholarship. Swanson School of Engineering, and she’s OOS. 32 ACT, but #1 class ranking at a small private school in Western NY with tons of EC’s. Class Treasure, President of UNYTS club, 3 sport athlete and captain of soccer, basketball and softball teams. I was shocked because as per Pitt’s web site, all merit recipients in 2014-15 had a 33 ACT or higher … So there’s hope for the <33 crowd!

@PhilaSkiMom congrats on getting the scholarship letter, were you satisfied with the amount or are you contemplating going thru the appeals process

I’m with OhBoyChoboy. We were pleasantly surprised that our daughter received full-tuition for OOS. She was lights-out with grades, class rank, AP’s, honor society, etc., but she just barely met the requirement for the ACT score to be considered. I had already prepped her that she probably won’t be able to go to Pitt due to OOS costs. We are so happy that Pitt looked at the complete picture. We are waiting on a few more schools to come in with offers, but it sure looks like she’s headed to Pitt!

My daughter has received the Chancellors Nominee Scholarship for nursing and was offered the opportunity to apply to the Chancellors scholarship which she did apply to. Have those notifications gone out yet? It there a courtesy notification if she did not make the cut as well.

Invitations for interviews should go out soon. We received a letter last year when D did not advance further.

@403e11q Congratulations to you! We are OOS, can you verify the " full tuition " that your daughter received? Was is tuition only or did it include OOS fees? We are in the situation where we will have OOS fees + R& B

Thank you!

@FuturePittMom

Our son’s OOS full tuition covers the actual cost of OOS tuition. It’s a really nice award, since it covers even the increased cost over four years. You only have to worry about fees and room/board (and books and misc.)

Fees and room and board should be the same cost for instate and out of state students.

It will include some mandatory fees that all students pay and some dependent on particular courses.

Room cost will depend on dorm and room configuration, meal plan cost will depend on plan chosen.

It covers the OOS full tuition. We will still have to pay room and board, books, etc. The original post asked for stats, so here’s some info. My daughter had a 4.0 UW. I don’t know her ACT, but she had the minimum English+Math for the merit requirement. Non athlete. Lots of community service hours (if that matters). No hooks. I will add that we visited twice during the last two summers. Pitt was her first love and has always been at the top. We just didn’t limit ourselves to Pitt in case it didn’t work out financially.

@403e11q , thank you for the clarification. Very happy for you! Wish that we had also received the same as it would have taken a lot of stress off our family as we figure things out.

@dudefromnowhere – She sent in an appeal. We are in-state and she has full tuition offers from 2 other schools (1 in state and 1 OOS). Pitt offered her 5K per year (33 ACT, 4.2 GPA, #2/78, ton of leadership and ECs). We are hoping for a successful appeal as Pitt is her top choice.

Congrats to all!!. Still hoping for a merit something for my S. We’re also OOS. 35 ACT, top 10% (class of ~370). All APs/honors, plenty of consistent ECs.

@PhilaSkiMom Not sure what parameters are used to arrive at the Scholarship decision. Hope things work out for your daughter at Pitt since it is her top choice. Good Luck!

D got full tuition and we are OOS, this and liking the school a lot during our visit has made Pitt a top choice for her

OOS, 4.0UW, 31 ACT. Never got around to filling out the short answer responses. Received $10k/yr

@zaychik, Congrats! Might I ask when you applied and when you received your admissions decision? My daughter was accepted in early December, but has not heard back yet regarding a scholarship. Still keeping fingers crossed!

@Jules821 my application was considered complete around December 8 and I received my acceptance packet in the mail on January 22

@zaychik , thank you and one final question, when and how did you find out that you received the $10K per year scholarship, via email, mail or both?

@Jules821 Pitt sends scholarship information only by mail. No emails
