If you are from PA make sure your child applies to Stamps and Nordenberg as well, if invited.

Has anyone applied for the Stamps/Nordenberg scholarship here yet? I need to upload an academic resume/activity sheet, but I’m not quite sure what to include and how to format it. Should I find a template online and use that?

Hahaha. We have received so many letters in the past few weeks from Pitt’s Admissions Office, all of them false alarms. Because we as parents are not allowed to open son’s letters, each time we have about 6 hours of crazy anticipation before son gets home that maybe today will be the day merit notification comes.

Yesterday’s fire drill was a good letter about safety on Pitt’s campus, but the return address was the Admissions Office so we were hoping for news on merit scholarships, not a letter about how many blue light phones they have on campus.

Ironically with all of this frustration, Pitt is the best of our choices for releasing scholarship notifications so quickly and the staff at @hailtopitt1787 is fantastic for answering all these questions anonymously. UMD doesn’t release merit scholarships until some time in February. It’s going to be a very long 3 months. Good luck to all.

@Engineering713 - I hear you =)) I meant merit award letters  Somehow we didn’t get safety letter!

Hello everyone! I just want to re-iterate some information about the scholarship process to help with nerves:

The Scholarship Committee just started meeting this month. They meet weekly to review students on a rolling basis. They try to review in order of application, but if you don’t hear back right away - don’t get nervous! It is very common for the Committee to review an applicant multiple times before making a decision, so keep in mind that the length of time you are waiting does not mean you won’t get a scholarship offer. Offers go out weekly, via snail mail, and will all be sent by March 1st at the latest.

If you have not yet filled out the optional Short Answer Questions, please do so if you would like to be considered for scholarships. These are the same Short Answer Questions that were on your application, so if you have already filled them out, please do not do so again, we’ve got them already!

If you are in-state and interested in the Stamps and Nordenberg Scholarships, you must complete a brief supplemental application in order to be considered: https://oafa.pitt.edu/pa_scholars/index.php

When it comes to completing your Pitt application, Short Answer Questions, and Stamps/Nordenberg application, please plan to have it all done by December 15. This is the deadline in order to be automatically considered for Pitt scholarships. Earlier is even better. The earlier you apply and submit the supplemental items I mentioned, the better your chances - since review is done on a rolling basis.

You can find this information and more on our website: https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/

One more great resource: our Associate Director of Admissions (and resident Scholarship guru) Ron J. hosted an hour-long Facebook Live Chat on our Page. If you search for “@PittAdmissions” on Facebook, you will find the page and can easily access the archived video.

I know that the wait is stressful, but our Scholarship Committee works very hard to give everyone a fair/thorough review as quickly as they can. If you are selected, know that you will hear from us as soon as possible.

Best of luck, everyone!
A Pitt Admissions Staffer

@hailtopitt1787 thanks for the great info!

Yes, please try to be patient.

Congratulations to those that received scholarships!

@sbmry1 @kansub @GR3 : Did any of you get a one page letter from Pitt office of financial aid initially that basically said Pitt is a good place to be but did not mention any merit aid? DD got such a letter yesterday and is concerned she is turned down for merit aid.

Pitt periodically sends information by mail about the school and programs, some of these are addressed to the parents, some the student.

Hard as it is, you will just have to hang in there in the next few months and hope for the best.

@Mom22DDs --yeah almost every school sends stuff like that. It has zero to do with merit aid and everything to do with just reaching out and assuring campus safety is a priority and that your son or daughter is wanted on their campus. It is not an indicator either way of scholarships.

Thank you, Mommdc.

Thank you @hailtopitt1787 @carachel2 & @mommdc! I’m going to ask DD to wait for her scholarship mail

@Mom22DDs, Yes, we got that letter a few weeks ago. My son applied for Pitt very early.
