@shooting4stars The portal is still working for her. Same message as before.
My S was accepted and received a 10K/yr scholarship to Pitt in the Biology program. A week earlier he was given a full Tuition President’s Scholar award to TempleU. He visited Pitt a few times, and liked the school/campus, but the award is not enough to get him to attend Pitt. Is this full award to temple something OAFA would review on the Coast Analysis Worksheet? I know the schools may not compare on the national level, but for in-state they are closer.
@bigbric, Feel free to call our office if you would like to know more about Cost Analysis. That way, we can have a more detailed conversation with you about it and discuss your specific situation before recommending whether or not the process would be a fit for you: 412-624-7488

@bigbric keep us informed on what you find out. My son also has a 10/yr to Pitt and full tuition to Temple for biology.
FYI, S can still log into the Chancellor’s portal but HAS been eliminated. Got the letter today.
Good morning. My daughter was accepted into the Pitt Honors College / Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. She still hasn’t received notification as to whether she was awarded a merit scholarship. Does anyone know if Pitt is still in the process of mailing out those letters, or at this point should we assume that she didn’t receive a merit scholarship? Thank you!
Congrats to everyone who’s gotten scholarships. I’m a Chancellor’s applicant and I got accepted to Pitt in early September. Haven’t been eliminated for Chancellor’s yet and I can still access the portal. Is there an estimate on when I’ll hear back? Hail to Pitt!
I think for merit in general it was said before that letters should continue to go out through March.
As for Chancellor’s interviews, I think those invitations are going out on a rolling basis (as applications are reviewed), and are sent by email.
@jkjsan, Scholarship notification goes out until March 1. Best of luck!
Does anyone know of anyone in state receiving any merit $$ with an ACT less than 33? My son is accepted to Swanson for computer engineering, we were hoping that maybe he might receive SOMETHING. Anything would help obviously. His ACT was 30 and 4.06 GPA. Just curious. I was holding out some hope as Pitt is his first choice but I know that the he is outside of the guidelines for merit scholarships on the website.
@ahill70 Our daughter just received her big yellow envelope in the mail today, and she is outside of the posted guidelines. She received $5,000 per year, $20,000 total. Her details are: OOS (Ohio) - 31 ACT, 4.3 Weighted GPA, 7 AP, all others honor classes, lots of XC. She was accepted into Dietrich Arts & Sciences for Pre-AP. She is Honors College eligible. It will still be significantly more expensive for her to go to Pitt than Ohio State with in-state tuition and a scholarship, but Pitt is her #1. So, we’ll see. Still waiting on responses from Notre Dame and Case Western. Don’t give up hope yet for your yellow envelope! Good luck and congratulations to everyone else on their scholarship offers! #H2P
@ohiogirlmom Thank you so much for your response and congrats to your daughter! Best of luck to her whatever she decides. I will continue to hope for a little miracle in a yellow envelope.
After we heard on the Facebook live event last week that most of the merit money had been given out, she sent an appeal email that included her scholarship offers from other schools. I don’t know if that helped her cause or not, but it couldn’t hurt to try! Good luck!! I certainly understand what an anxious time it is for everyone!
My D just received her acceptance into the honors college today. She previously received merit award of 5k yr/20k over 4 years. 33 ACT 3.8 UW 7 AP/IB courses. She’s in the college of nursing.
While we appreciate the scholarship, her merit awards were higher at every other school she applied to. This leaves her COA at Pitt at just over 40k. My husband won’t go for that when she has higher ranked schools with lower COA. She truly did love Pitt, the HC, and the nursing program here though
@ohiogirlmom I missed that facebook live event. So they said that it had mostly been distributed. That is disappointing. This whole process is extremely upsetting and incredibly stressful Good luck to you.
@GAcollegemom6 if your net COA after merit from comparable schools is lower, ask Pitt to reconsider.
https://oafa.pitt.edu/financialaid/academic-scholarships/cost-analysis/
The above link states that cost analysis compares the tuition, fees, room and board minus aid for Pitt and two other schools.
Not just the scholarship amount. And it doesn’t use total COA.
@hailtopitt1787 Would merit aid offered by Pitt be reduced if a private scholarship was offered to a student and if so, would the original merit amount be reinstated for subsequent years? Thank you.
@opallady, The possibility that aid would be reduced depends on whether or not the outside scholarship, combined with Pitt financial aid and scholarships, would result in an over-award. A financial aid over-award occurs when aid received from all sources is greater than the Cost of Attendance (COA), or when need based aid is over the federally determined financial need.
That said, each case is nuanced. It would really be best for you to call Financial Aid to discuss your specific situation: 412-624-7488 or finaid@pitt.edu

@hailtopitt1787 Thank you. So, if for example outside award was $3,000, Pitt Merit is $5,000 and no need-based aid offered (other than $5500 unsubsidized loan), then we pay remaining COA minus the $3,000? Therefore $8,000 in essence merit for the first year, then back to $5,000 years after?
