Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

He’s not super motivated to save the ASU acceptance because it wasn’t his top choice school. He got into his top choice but that’s where money is the issue. He is very motivated to figure out how to get the money. Thank you for the words of wisdom; I’m going to discuss the deferment idea with him and have him start contacting those people about having that conversation, as well as contact admissions to see what he can do to bolster his application for fall 2018 while still being considered a freshman.

In a lot of ways, this could be a blessing. He started the process very late, so he only applied at a handful of places and didn’t really have a lot of time to do a lot of research. A gap year would give him time to do more research, apply to more schools, and put himself in a better position for acceptance and scholarship money.

So Rejection or not?? Email from Pace: "Congratulations, you have been admitted to to the Pforzheimer Honors College. . . blah . . . blah . . . " Then next paragraph; “You have been accepted as an Undecided major to our Dyson College Arts & Sciences starting in the Fall 2017”

Academic admit. Did you hear from Pace Performing Arts Yet?

@daughtersdreams Yes, that is an academic admit only and since they put undecided, then not accepted to original major requested.

@daughtersdreams I dug up my D’s academic admit letter from Pace (November) and it says “accepted as an undecided major. Major will be updated if you are admitted to the School of Performing Arts based on your audition”.

@daughtersdreams As others have said, acceptance into Pforzheimer is completely separate from artistic admit. A separate mailing, in an envelope from Pace Performing Arts, is the artistic decision.

I just came from the opening of my D’s Spring musical (morning show they put on for the local senior citizens) and it was fantastic! Lots of kids (and myself) were upset that they changed the show 2 weeks before auditions from Legally Blonde to The Producers. But I have to admit…great call and just so well done…especially for a non-PA high school. And one of her close friends who is one of our star football players decided to try out and played Carmen Ghia! So funny the kids are gonna die when they see him!

@ginja17 my D did but was deferred to Theatre Performance. She’s super excited. Good luck getting in. This whole process has been enormously painful on our children and us. Finger’s crossed!

For those accepted to Montclair, what did the email say? I received a confusing acceptance email, but I was admitted months ago to the school. Not sure if this is MT or just a reminder I’ve been accepted

@theotherparent From experience I can tell you that transfer students get very little $$ and many times zero… even with a 4.0 unweighted GPA and top 20% SAT scores. Do some research before taking this path. A gap year to train, work, save money is fine…just don’t enroll in a college. Good Luck!

@mtpassionate99 My D’s email from Montclair said, “CONGRATULATIONS! It was pleasure meeting you at the on campus auditions on [date]. We are writing to inform you that your strong work at the auditions has garnered you ACCEPTANCE into the BFA ACTING PROGRAM.” (caps in original). My D auditioned for both MT and Acting. She didn’t receive a rejection from MT, but we took the Acting acceptance as an acceptance to one and rejection for the other.

@daughtersdreams thanks for the info. Will definitely check in with admissions to see what he can do to bolster his application academically while still being able to apply as a freshman.

My S got an email saying Manhattan School of Music updated their portal today around 3:15pm. It was a yes! We’re very happy. Anyone waiting on MSM should check their portal.

thank you!

So a little while back somewhere in this thread several folks received an invite to Univ of Hartford for their spring reception. My D just received that email tonight, HOWEVER, no acceptance to Hartt School as of yet only academic acceptance. Why haven’t we heard from them yet???

If I missed this elsewhere and someone already mentioned it, I apologize. But I think the (new Nov 2016) documentary on Netflix, “Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened” should be required viewing for all MT/Acting students. It’s the story of Merrily We Roll Along (with some AMAZING footage) and the paths the actors took after that experience. Highly Recommend!

Hey,

Right now, I’m torn between CMU and UIUC for computer engineering. CMU is much more prestigious and I would rather go there but it costs around $72,000 as compared to UIUC which costs around $50,000.

Even if i go to CMU, my parents won’t really have to take out loans to fund my education, but it will take out a huge chunk of their savings and my parents are not really certain about that.

Is a CMU education worth $22,000 more? My parents main criterion for a university is prestige and rankings, so how prestigious would you say Carnegie Mellon is? What are some other universities in the same tier?

Thanks

@aquarose26 - We are in the exact same situation with Hartt. Received email to spring reception but nothing else. Someone wrote on the Hartt page that all letters were mailed out this week. I assume we will hear soon?

@aquarose26 and @sabersunshine We are in the same boat with Hartt. Received an invite to Spring reception, but no artistic decision. My D told me that kids on the Company are saying that there was a medical situation with a faculty member and they are behind.

@InfiniteLibrary you are posting in the Musical Theater Major forum.
