Class of 2021 (sharing, venting, etc)

Wagner is absolutely not a safety. No audition program is. Even if your kid is a young Kristin Chenoweth, there might be 2 other kids already there who look just like her so they aren’t looking for her “type.”

So true!

That was directed to @GSOMTMom’s comment.

My D has heard from two of her pre-screens so far (Marymount for a regional audition and UCF). Has anyone heard from Coastal Carolina this round?

My daughter just heard back from Otterbein! She will be auditioning in December!

Rejected from Otterbein! Some how I am not surprised. I ran into my middle school choir teacher today and she gave me great advice. Go in and give them the best you can, its not like you have been accepted so you technically have nothing to lose. And although it sucks I didn’t lose anything by trying.

I’m dragging my heels so badly on filming my prescreens. The accompanist I’d prefer to use is super busy and it’s hard to find a time to record my songs (let alone the fact that I haven’t 100% decided my audition package) and I’m literally dreading it so much I’m considering dropping the one prescreen school I have from my list. Sigh. What’s the latest y’all think prescreens should be sent in?

we used piano trac.com worked perfect for the prescreen just use a good speaker

My D just heard from SU after 3 weeks

Thanks for the kind words I keep saying to my D you will land where you should. This whole process is more stressful for me then her at this point. She is really enjoying her senior year go figure. I am glued to the emails and scheduling auditions she passed the pre screen at SU she really loved there program and we have family close by which is a plus.

@blueumbrella How much do you care about this school? If the prescreen material is stuff you will be using in your auditions (only some schools require this) then it is probably worth it seeing as you should work on and practice with that material as much as possible (if you are not using it then you might be better off spending your time working on actual audition material). Since I’m assuming you are doing regular decision I would say you have plenty of time to film them, just be aware that if it is a popular school they might have limited spots left.

I’m on a little vacation in Disney and took a trip to Tampa to visit my cousin. He drove us by University of Tampa and I was shocked at how gorgeous the campus is. It was on the long list but I since removed it. After seeing it in person though I’m thinking of having my D apply. Any input on the acting program there? Not MT, straight acting.

@MThopeful99 It’s pace, I’m semi-serious, but is expensive and is a reach school for me. It would be my actual audition material though so I think I will suck it up and film them soon.

Hi there - my daughter is a freshman BFA MT at Kent State. After many months of planning, applying, auditioning, and travel, she ended up with 6 offers of artistic admission out of the 13 schools she applied to, and to all of our surprise, she chose to attend her last minute, last-thought-of school. I would definitely recommend Kent to anyone looking for an affordable, quality program taught by high-quality working professionals, with a professional equity theatre attached to it. After this crazy experience, when my daughter was sure that she was destined to attend one of the “big” schools, specifically Carnegie-Mellon or Michigan or Otterbein, and then she didn’t actually like what she saw or how she was treated when she got to some of the schools, I do truly believe that one size does NOT fit all, and that you CAN be successful wherever you go to school. Whatever school you end up at will be wonderful, and if it isn’t then you can transfer! Let me know if you have questions that I might be able to answer about the schools she auditioned at, the process, or Kent!

@4Kids4Me Which were her 6 offers from? Thanks!

@Mel2421 This is what @4kids4Me posted in last years acceptance list. Glad to hear she is happy where she landed

4Kids4Me D: Kent State BFA MT; Marymount Manhattan BA Theatre MT Concentration; Millikin BFA MT; Ohio Northern BFA MT; Otterbein BFA MT WAITLIST; also Denison and Ohio State BA Theatre

Kent, Marymount Manhattan, Millikin, Baldwin-Wallace (Acting), Ohio Northern, and Ohio State (Acting - they don’t have MT), plus academic acceptances for the other schools. She did NOT get artistically accepted to Michigan or Point Park, although she passed the pre-screens, or Carnegie Mellon, and she was waitlisted for Otterbein. She was also accepted to go to Wright State, Denison U, Miami of Ohio (they offered her a BA theatre scholarship but she didn’t choose to go there). I have a lot of opinions if you want to discuss!

@toowonderful, it took me a minute to remember all the places!! And she seems quite happy. The big thing is, she thought only the “big” MT schools knew what they are doing, and she found out that she was wrong. She has some friends attending several of the big schools, and she has been surprised that everything that they do isn’t awesome or amazing, and some of the kids are disgruntled already. Her school is doing just fine, and as more people hear about it, then that can only do great things for all!

@blueumbrella my oldest D is a senior Commercial Dance major at Pace. It is expensive but they are very generous with merit scholarships so as long as your grades are good you can expect around $20K per year. Academically it is not hard to get into but artistically it’s getting harder and harder as it gets more well known.

Has anyone heard back from Florida State re prescreen?
