@WTXMom she said any studio. I’m guessing more likely to be a non MT studio. Does that mean even the production design studio? Also you have to accept the admission and pay the deposit to know your studio?
@milmom2 I distinctly remember them saying at the info session that if you say MT only they will consider you for MT only. Sounds like your son got into MT. Congrats!!!
@LAM2017 My D does not have a financial aid package showing at this time. Don’t think they will post that for wait list kids. Their FAQ says this re: aid for kids who come off the wait list:
If we are able to offer you admission, we will consider you for need-based and merit-based financial aid, assuming you have already completed our required financial aid forms online by our respective deadlines earlier this winter. If we are able to offer you admission, we will not expect you to commit to enrolling at NYU until after you review your financial aid award.
Thanks @momto2artists . I just found that too. It also says if you come off of the waitlist, you have 72 hours to make a deposit and commit. Yikes!
@momto2artists and @LAM2017 if they would just tell us the financial aid package with the wait list things would move a lot faster! then we could say if we are interested :))
@Theatrical - I wouldn’t assume that just because she said any studio, she won’t be placed in MT, but yes, statistically, there are more spots in non-MT studios so the chances are relatively high she will end up in one of those. There are 8 - primary studios, including production & design, but I don’t think the production design studio is on the table for those who auditioned for acting w/o specifically expressing an interest in it - those students tend to have to submit portfolios and other things to be evaluated for acceptance. The main studios first year drama students are considered for are Adler, Atlantic, Experimental Theatre Wing (ETW), Meisner, New Studio on Broadway (MT), Playwright’s Horizons (lots of writing), and Strasburg.
Yes - you do have to accept the admission and pay the deposit to find out what studio you are in (and yes, there were people who rescinded their decision after they got a studio they didn’t want). The only people who know for sure what studio they got are the ones who said MT only.
Thank you WTXMom. That’s super helpful
D just got her rejection from Syracuse MT. Silver lining-waitlisted for their Newhouse School of Public Communications, Broadcast & Digital Journalism Program.
It’s not really on the table anymore-but at this point it is validating to receive a thumbs up for her talents and effort.
A no for us. There wait is over. Time to make decisions.
@AnotherBrickX If you D applied only to Tisch MT and was waitlisted, then yes, she is waitlisted at Tisch. Studio would depend on whether she said MT only or open to any studio.
If you are talking about Tisch, no you don’t. You’ll find out about studio placement well before May 1st deposits are due. Usually it comes about a week later though our year it was a long two weeks of waiting. Tisch is fully aware that studio placement can be an important part of the decision making. @milmom2, if your son said he would only consider MT and put that on his paperwork too, he was accepted to New Studio for MT. Congratulations to one and all.
So, in determining financial “need” does NYU consider the difference in EFC and total cost of attendance “need” and do they meet that need if a student is accepted?
@stagedoormama Thanks for the info! And yes she applied MT only. We’re trying to decide if she can change that for the waitlist. We don’t know if that’s even an option for the WL. It’s hard not knowing how many were accepted and how many on the WL. Do people even come off the WL for MT? Tisch is her first choice. Does anyone know if it’s important to accept the wait list asap. Do they look at that when offering slots?
@AnotherBrickX you can select multiple programs that you are interested in on the waitlist RSVP form. So your D should have no problem including the acting studios. Congratulations!
@LAM2017 from what I’ve heard NYU is notoriously bad at meeting need. And thank you! We’re trying to see this as a positive and not be too sad
Oh. My. God. Well - yay that she got in…but I just saw the award summary. They expect us to pay more than I make in a year. The amount they will allow my child to take out in a loan should be criminal. Guess what - someone’s getting in off the waitlist.
If it makes you feel any better, Northwestern’s total cost this year is showing $73,481!! And since we got zero in aid, someone on the wait list there is getting our spot!
@singoutlouise I thought the same
Did she get work study as well like my son? Wonder what he has to do to earn that?
Sorry if this has been asked and answered but does anyone know where/how to find out which program accepted you at Tisch? MT or Acting? Or do they let you know later?
If you only said you were interested in MT then that is the one you are put in. If you are open to other studios you will have to wait and see which one they put you in.
