@mom4bwayboy your intel is correct
@marg928 thanks for the heads up I know my daughter would regret it if she did not try for u mich now we wait for prescreen approval I feel like we are playing a game of chance lol ! My D was pretty much done with the application anyways she was still reviewing her essays ! We are now 100 percent done with applications 15 of them in it cost a ton of money!
DAMMIT!!
That means I can no longer throw Madonna references into random Michigan posts.

@KaMaMom - I know, right?! My S had strict standing orders to get “Madonna’s daughter” updates when he and his friend were home on breaks. He did NOT see the importance of such information and always “forgot” to inquire.
I just had a nice 30 minute phone conversation with my daughters MTCA coach. FYI he told me that Ithaca divides their prescreens by last name and assigns several different teachers a group. If a teacher is not that busy and get to it quickly then you will get an answer very quickly. If you happen to be in the group where the teacher might be directing a mainstage show or is otherwise busy then you will be waiting longer for an answer.
@KaMaMom but you can throw it into random SUNY Purchase posts!
@marg928…regarding Ithaca, I believe that is true but somewhat unfair for the students who were diligent in sending in their application and prescreens early to hopefully get an audition time slot that works for them. As I said before, my S submitted on 10/22 and nothing yet. Our last name begins with an “S”…I guess he got assigned to a busy faculty member. Other friends of his submitted within the last 2 weeks and already heard back. Ughhhh…the waiting!!
So after working on songs with his song coach for months, participating in mock college auditions and working with his voice instructor, my S says to me this morning that he is rethinking his song choice and may sing something different for his first live audition TOMORROW! He is really over thinking everything! Anyone else’s child experiencing this? I think it is a horrible idea to change at this point. Thoughts???
My d changed her song last minute 2 years ago at a National Competition. This kids really do over think everything. At Moonifieds she changed some songs depending on her mood. She did fine. They have to go with their gut feeling. He will be fine.
@nodaybut2daymom get used to unfair. Nothing about this process is fair. But then again, nothing about life is really fair, and to have a career in the performing arts you really need to get used to the random, seemingly arbitrary nature of things. So consider this a good lesson to carry forward. As far as changing songs goes, I agree with Mel2421. I think it’s more important that your child go into the room with something he feels comfortable and confident with. My D told me just last week that when she auditioned for the school she is now at, the girl directly ahead of her sang the exact same uptempo song! (And we’d picked a pretty obscure one.) She felt so confident with her choice, she resisted the urge to change at the last minute. Had she not, she probably would have picked something else from her book, and that would have been okay, too.
@marg528, not clear if your daughter is going for MT or acting, but they are very separate, and I believe acting is a bit less competitive.
New revelation about the spring musical AKA Legally Blond vs. The Producers! My D just texted me and said after talking to the teacher/choreographer she decided to audition. I was like…what did she say that was so earth shattering? Copied and pasted her text…much easier that way:
“She explained why they changed it she said when they all came together to talk about ideas it was so creatively unstimulating and they weren’t excited about it at all and Mrs. M was like I don’t care I’m just gonna let Victoria choreograph cause I feel so uninspired and bored by the show And legally blonde apparently only had 2 dance numbers and the best part of south shows is always the ensemble the rest was just Elle like on her personal journey and a lot of acting so the ensemble would playa a Really small role. And she said there are mostly guy roles but a lot of small girl parts that they can’t cast right away
And a lot of girl opportunities
And she said I can miss whenever I have audition”
BY THE WAY Victoria is a student! So she was going to let a student choreograph the show! Can you imagine?
@nodaybut2daymom you’re absolutely right! Our last name is P so maybe we’re in the same batch!
@Jkellynh17 She’s BFA Acting
@marg928 - I have known lots of schools that use student choreographers (whether still in school, or recent graduates) I have seen it work out really well, and really not well - just depends. To me, it’s not that different from having student stage managers etc…
@toowonderful they did actually use Victoria for their spring show but I just feel that it’s wrong. The teacher is the one getting paid…what’s in it for the student?
Legally Blonde, in my recollection, has way more than two dance numbers.
@CTDramaMom that’s exactly what I was thinking–I was in a production of Legally Blonde this summer (parents directed and choreographed by teens) and I was in at least 7 ensemble dance numbers!
It is great for students my d choreographed the Musical and Plays. She loves to do it. She was nominated for a Buckley Award for student choreography as a Freshman. Most Drama Teachers didn’t dance and some people just aren’t good at Choreography.
I asked my D (who is an Acting major at Purchase) if she’s run into her (the acting and dance majors are together every day). My D says she may have but if she has, Lola is not making a point to stick out and just blends in with the rest of the perfect looking dancers (her words)! Good for Lola!!
