It’s quite unsettling to see some parents on this forum freaking out over USPS rumors and potentially hidden clues on the portal page, and even more so to see them revealing their child’s SAT score and GPA on a public chat for some kind of validation. I would be disgusted to find out if, prior to an admissions decision, my parent had been fiendishly lurking on a forum, posting hundreds of comments, advertising my statistics, and logging into my portal with MY applicant number and password to check before I do. College admissions is an exciting time for parents of course, but this kind of behavior is pretty ridiculous. When I come here to view discussion I want to talk and interact with my fellow WashU applicants who are nervous and excited to undertake the next chapter of their lives and who have shared the toil of applications, SAT prep courses and studying, and a rigorous 4 years.
@amaliep -“Do you think it’s worth it to set up an account with USPS at this late date or are notifications for new accounts too unreliable?”
I just signed up today. Someone on this thread told me it took a few days. I just read through the FAQ’s on the USPS site and it also said it takes a few days to activate. So no, at this point just wait for the portal update.
@momto2dd In the packages tab right next to the mailpieces tab!
@mikeesik28 - You have a right to your opinion. In our case I have been taking the lead on the college search details to let my son concentrate on studies and activities. He writes all of his own essays, etc., but I do the ‘admin work’, research, etc. Once he chooses a school he will take the lead on everything going forward. Not all parents on here are operating behind their kids backs. Be careful you have enough information before being disgusted with us.
Sorry if I’m repeating something (I’ve actually had to work today). I have the PRO STAR LOGISTICS from St. Louis package also coming. It says the label was created at 8:34 AM. It showed up on my USPS Informed Delivery at about 12:15 PM.
What time are decisions coming out?
Has anyone called admissions to see if they have finally given a specific time? Or are they still saying April 1?
@matt4isu decisions are coming at probs like 6 est
@amaliep I’m not making a USPS account because it’s too late - I’ll just wait a few hours for the actual decision
has anyone in CA got an Informed Delivery notification? I’m in los angeles and have nothing, so guessing it’s a very bad sign
@mikeesik28 What are you talking about? I see no indication that parents are operating portals behind their children’s backs. Much of what you claim to be true seems to be fabricated. Take a chill pill.
If I speed I can get to the admissions office within 3 hours. Will they be released before then?
Well a lot of parents on this site do those types of things. Frankly a site like Reddit is way cooler because it’s mostly students and not annoying helicopter parents talking about how great their S’s and D’s are
I, too, have no apologies to you@mikeesik28! You don’t know me or my D, and she has given me permission to log into her portal, and she finds the info. I gleen from CC very helpful and insightful. Best of luck connecting with your fellow people. You can ignore my posts.
@Ashtash I created the account on the decision day two years ago in the afternoon after I saw some posts in the tread about USPS informed delivery but nothing showed up (of course!). I figured out that it took 2 or 3 days to get the actual informed delivery information.
anyone?
Also remember that some of us parents are in this for the first time. We have no idea what stats are required for certain schools. It’s not all bragging and validating, but just comparing to see if expectations are realistic. We didn’t have the internet when I searched for colleges in the 80’s. This is as new to me as it is to you students.
Folks, I just registered for USPS Informed Delivery about 2 hours ago. A minute ago I got a notification about a package from PRO STAR from St.Louis. I live in NorCal.
So it is not too late to register for USPS Informed Delivery.
@2KansasKids I think it’s wonderful that you are involved in the college admissions process with your kids. My mom just expected me to get everything done. When I got deferred from ND, the first thing she asked me was “why? what did you wrong?” and I think that parents who are knowledgable on how unpredictable the admission process is can understand better why some decisions come out the way they do.
@mikeesik28 I am not sure how you come with that conclusion. Closed families takes care of each other, just like we are trying to help here each other. just fyi,if you are really that concerned about parent access, probably FERPA should be a blocked word. We are all nervous and anxious and so relax and go with wave right now.
