Does anyone know how many or what percentage of applicants are selected as finalists and how many end up receiving the scholarship?
They posted letters of regret two years ago when my oldest didn’t get any of the scholarships. I remember being in shock, because on paper, I couldn’t imagine a better candidate. However, two years later, my daughter is a sophomore at Wash U and is surrounded by some of the smartest people I’ve ever been around. There are probably 50+ in her engineering group that deserved scholarships, but scholarships are limited. I’m sure it is a really hard decision for the committee. My HS senior also did not receive a scholarship this year. I am disappointed, but not shocked this time. Great school. Congrats to all the winners. Can’t wait for the admission decisions to come.
My son applied for Danforth and Langsdorf, and has not been notified he’s a finalist. Bummer. He will not qualify for financial aid, so a scholarship was needed to go to WashU. We can’t pay $70K/year to go there, no matter how much he likes the school.
QUESTION: Are there any other merit scholarships given to applicants that get admitted? (Or just these that require a trip to Scholarship Weekend?)
Congrats to all who are moving on in the process - you’re exceptional students to stand out in such a high quality pool of applicants!
@MFHP96 what a lovely way to put it “you’re exceptional students to stand out in such a high quality pool of applicants!” I never thought of it that way, and I will share that sentiment with DS.
Congratulations to all the scholarship finalists. I agree with @MFHP96 that the price tag of WashU has an impact on my son’s ultimately choice. We did apply for financial aid and are hoping for a good number, assuming my son gets in.
I’m not notified…sad…it feels kind of rude that they don’t even bother to send out something saying they are sorry
Me too, I got nothing so far. I applied for Conway and Proetz btw.
@HappySquirrel i agree… like i had a low chance of being a finalist anyway, but an actual letter would have been better than just “not being notified”
Not a finalist either. Anyone have any idea about when RD comes out?
It’s very strange that those not receiving scholarships were not notified. Last year letters of regret were posted. I apologize on behalf of WashU to those left out to dry; that does not reflect well the school I have grown to love.
Anyone who has received invitation for Wash.U interview, please provide details what their portal says and how you were notified, through phone call or email or mail? Looks like not everybody were called. Thank you!
Stepson received an email informing him that decisions could be found via the portal. On the portal was an update admitting him and inviting him to the finalist weekend for the Olin Scholarship (business school).
@david5454 thanks!
My son received phone call yesterday informing he is finalist for Annika Rodriguez scholarship. Today he received email to check the portal. And the portal has the same. And the last sentence in the portal says he is admitted to the university.
Congratulations
You have been selected as a finalist for the Annika Rodriguez Scholars Program. We invite you to come to Washington University for Scholars Weekend:

Congratulations, again, on this exciting news and on your admission to Washington University.
Thank you @CU08
Again, congrats to all finalists! I have the same question as post 122 by @MFHP96, “Are there any other merit scholarships given to applicants that get admitted? (Or just these that require a trip to Scholarship Weekend?)”. If not, then WashU is out. DS already has full tuition offered by a state school. Hard to pass that up. I can see paying more to go to a school like WashU, but no way we would pay $200K more (or anything close to that).
Congrats to all finalist and list is getting narrower and narrower.
@2KansasKids pretty sure these are the only merit scholarships sponsored by the school. Most students who can get admitted at WashU can get substantial tuition reduction at other schools. I could go to every other school I applied to for less than half what it will cost to attend WashU, and a couple for nothing. Still happy to attend WashU and parents not happy but willing to pay for it and support the decision. Everyone needs to make their own decision on whether they can and will choose to spend what it takes to attend WashU. No one right answer.
@deanmoriarty - hopefully you didn’t think I was implying that anyone who pays more for WashU over other choices is foolish. As a parent I would gladly pay more for WashU over several other choices. Just not $200K more
I do expect ‘IF’ my DS is accepted, they will offer something to get closer to FAFSA’s EFC (expected family contribution). If so, then we can weigh the cost/benefit. But you answered my question about merit scholarships which I appreciate.
@kansaskids thanks and sorry - I am probably defensive cuz I know it costs a ton. We aren’t getting any EFC money, which might make you think we have so much money we have no problem spending $280,000 when we could be spending less than $50,000 but that’s really not the case at all.
