Hi. My son has been accepted and we love Stevens for many reasons. I am trying to get a better understanding of class size, work load and the faculty in engineering. Is the school competitive or do kids work in groups? Any info about your experiences with Stevens would be great. Particularly when do they finally get to smaller sized classes…I know a lot is lecture hall, but I am not sure of the size of those classes.
My son is an engineering major currently. I think that his bigger classes were still only around 60-75 people (for ex Calc 2). Most were in the 25-30 range? I think they keep the freshmen english classes around 25.
It is competitive. And they also work in groups on various projects. Most of the kids are pretty motivated students and he did not have any big problems with the group work.
The work load is heavy. An engineering schedule will be tough no matter where you go. Faculty is typically variable. He has had some (according to him) amazing instructors and some that were not so amazing. Nothing out of the ordinary, afaik.
