Someone had posted some Waitlist stats further up the thread from prior years. Based on what i remember it does not look very promising for waitlist conversion to accepted. I could be totally wrong since we are in a “new normal” but my hunch is that most waitlist kids will not be accepted.
According to the most recent Common Data Set available (2019-2020) 6 people were accepted from the waiting list.
It’s a much smaller program than other colleges. I think they only accept 250 students. UofSC takes 600 for comparison, and other schools are even higher.
@ProudVAmom I have noticed an inconsistency across all colleges. My son got the most merit aid from U of SC (by far) yet did not get accepted to the HC. He got the least amount of merit from UDel and was accepted into the HC in the first round. So go figure. Two different sets of eyes looking at the same material and coming to two very different conclusions. Perhaps they have different priorities or have different buckets to fill. Perhaps, since they are human, they see things differently. That has been the biggest surprise for me. I though the process would be more linear and predictable. It has been anything but.
My daughter has so many friends (in state) who were Bridged or offered the summer program. And kids of alums who were waitlisted. My daughter also has a 30 ACT/5.01 weighted and was offered Honors. So similar to your son. I’m also an alum. I’m guessing major plays the biggest part? Mine is packaging science.
Small world…I was a PKG SC major. Son is Business…but ideally plans for law school. I don’t think the test-optional situation this year did him (or others with similar stats)
any favors.
Same, my D got the at least $85k from UofSC, but not HC. Was accepted to Clemson in November with scholarship but not HC. Meanwhile, has been accepted to general honors and encouraged to apply to engineering honors (+ good merit) at other universities whose engineering programs are similarly or higher ranked than Clemson and higher than UofSC (lowest ranked to which she applied), but are further geographically.
This is all making for a very difficult decision on where to attend. Does she give up opportunities for location/comfort or give up location/comfort for opportunities?
My daughter was bridged 3.96UW/4.26W OOS Test Optional. Varsity and competitive cheer. I’m also an alum. I read several posts on Reddit that Clemson bridges a lot of legacies assuming that they have a connection with Clemson and will accept. Who knows how true, but a friend’s daughter was also bridged - both parents are alums.
From my own personal experience, it seems like more Honors people are out of state! But the Honors acceptance classes are also really small - 250ish per year.
Hi! Clemson Honors student here. The program itself just adds a different set of graduation requirements, but the perks of being in it are wonderful. Honors has given me priority registration, which helps me get the better professors for each class I take as well as smaller honors sections of typically larger gen-eds. The dorms are also some of the nicest on campus, and very conveniently located. There are also a bunch of more fun seminars and professional development events specifically for Honors students! I completely recommend the experience, it’s really invaluable. Even if nothing else, the priority registration alone is worth it (classes fill up quickly!).
Clemson’s Honors program is very small and admission into it as a freshman relies heavily on essays. Everyone who applies is qualified for acceptance, so it really depends on if the Honors admission staff likes what you present in the other portions of your application.
I’ve seen some people say their portal still says awaiting admission. If you haven’t received a decision by now, then you should contact undergraduate admissions. A friend of mine hadn’t received a decision yet and called them today. He submitted his application back in October with all supporting documents. Admissions told him that they missed his application- they never reviewed it. They’re pushing his application through for review and he will receive his decision soon (hopefully).
Does anyone know anything about Lyceum Scholars?
I applied for Lyceum but haven’t heard yet.
2 years ago my daughter was accepted from the waitlist but it was with a January semester start - we opted for Ohio State and she loves it
Agree, my son is in clemson honors also. He now lives off campus but has his ‘spot’ to work between classes in the honors building. Priority registration, cool seminars and special classes, plus the convenience of being able to use the honors building is worth it!
Should I contact them even if I submitted my application in January?
no, only students who submitted apps by the Dec 1st priority deadline
We are in same boat… oos…waitlisted 4.46 weighted gpa …8 AP courses (calculus ab and bc, stat, bio lang, lit, environmental, economics) and hs does not rank. NHS,Peer Leader, Student Ambassador, competitive dancer, tons of service… other peers got accepted with less rigor and gpa. makes no sense
My D turned down her waitlist spot last night. Time to move on and love the colleges that love you back.
