Clemson Waitlist

My daughter was just waitlisted at Clemson.

I talked to the admissions office (they are very nice) and they can't tell you where on the waitlist you are, or even if it is ranked. They said they do not need additional grades or test scores, because they want her if there's room. Apparently two years ago, they took everyone on the wait list; last year, not so much.

They won't finally know about acceptance until Mid-May.

Does anybody have experience with the Clemson waitlist, or any recommendations on how to move yourself to the top. It's my daughters #1 choice!

Thanks!

Wouldn’t hurt to send them additional grades and test scores if they help your resume - they say they don’t need them but it certainly wouldn’t hurt. A letter about why you personally want to attend Clemson might be a good idea too. Be sure not to annoy the admissions people about your wait list status too much though.

Like you said, the wait list varies every year with how many applicants they take from it. Best of luck!

PS: Here’s an interesting story I was reading the other day about a girl who got off the wait list at Clemson: [The Three Greatest Words : College Buzzz](<a href=“Welcome clemson.collegebuzzz.com - BlueHost.com”>Welcome clemson.collegebuzzz.com - BlueHost.com)

I read in the Common Data Set that Clemson ranks the students on the Waitlist, but it didn’t say how it ranked them.

Does anyone know how they’re ranked?

Below that on the CDS: “If your waiting list is ranked, do you release that information to students and school counselors?” “No”

Doubtful Clemson would release that information if that’s their answer

I figured they wouldn’t release how they rank the waitlist, but thought that after all these years, someone might have figured it out!

You seem to be the Clemson dude - don’t you have any ideas?

I have no idea, I wish I had some inside scoop on Admissions but unfortunately I don’t haha

Went to Clemson last week and spoke to admissions counselor who specifically said the list is NOT ranked. (I had read that same thing in data but I certainly wasn’t going to argue lol) He said they use the list to “round out” the class, i.e. fill in holes created by people who decline admission, either by major, sports, interest, whatever. Pierre, your advice is spot on - don’t annoy them but show your interest via short letter/email, send updated grades (which I was told they “can’t” use because they don’t require mid-year grades - but couldn’t hurt I guess), other SAT/ACT scores, updated awards/honors, and maybe ONE more letter of rec (no more).
Good luck! Fingers crossed for everyone waiting :)

I was waitlisted as well to Clemson. I lost my letter that I got in the mail and I haven’t even registered to be say that I am interested in being on the waitlist. Can you tell me how I do that?

Call the admissions office: 864-656-3311

could also check if there’s something on iRoar (iroar.clemson.edu)

my S got a scholarship to USC and not at clemson, so he will not be going to clemson. i am sure there is a lot of OOS students making decisions in the next couple of weeks and that might have openings at Clemson

I think it’s a pretty good bet that every wait list is ranked, despite Admissions’ claim to the contrary. They just won’t admit it (why would they?) My son was wait listed at Clemson, but received such a great package from USC that it’s hard (as a parent) to pass up. He opted to wait it out for Clemson, but we’re trying to get him excited about USC, the school that welcomed him from the start and gave him a great scholarship. I really hope he chooses USC but he wants to wait for Clemson.

Heard from another Mom that waitlist was NOT ranked - then she called back to let me know that another mom who visited said the Admissions office told her the waitlist is DEFINITELY ranked!

Also heard that there “aren’t many” on the waitlist this year - whatever that means. would love to know how many have accepted a position on the waitlist - anybody out there know?

It doesn’t really matter to be honest, nobody is going to tell you where you are ranked if ranked. Just hope for the best!

Unfortunately for all of us “wait-listers”, we are full price tickets for these schools. Nobody is “courting” us, we’ll be lucky to even get in. With discounted tuition for USC and Virginia Tech, I really hope that after we visit that my son falls in love with one of these affordable options. He is also wait-listed for Villanova (Mom’s #1 choice at the start of this process - we are from NY and I really didn’t want to haul South.) Good luck to all - I feel for these kids (and their parents!). It is so stressful. I feel like the schools to which our kids are wait-listed become that much more appealing to them. Fingers crossed for everyone!

I also have reduced tuition at VT and was waitlisted at Clemson-- feels a little out of place due to my standings at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Was told we could call mid-April to find out status - they would have a better idea of the number of acceptances so far - has anyone heard?

cheermommy have you called yet?

Got a phone call from admissions today. My D was accepted from waitlist
No hard feelings, but she will be a UGA Bulldog this fall. Everything happens for a reason.
Good luck everyone!

Congrats to her, hope she loves UGA!

I was accepted off waitlist today as well!
