We've been monitoring courses on Connect Carolina and noticed that Chem 101 and 102 were already closed, even though first year orientation doesn't start until next week. Is that normal? We're not scheduled until the 4th session at the end of June. Is there any chance things open up?

Sure! They reserve seats in most entry level courses for each orientation session. It doesn’t matter if you are in the first orientation session or the last orientation session. No worries!

Thanks. That’s a relief. Some courses had a note that indicated how many seats were being held for first-year, but the Chem classes didn’t say anything.

I also had trouble figuring out how to search for ENGL 105 with the research focus (not 105I), but couldn’t figure it out, so I called the English Lit department and they said there were no offerings for 2013/2014. Any idea what hat happened? Was there no interest? Budget? Seemed perfect for the technically inclined, math/science based writers who are not looking forward to the mandatory English requirement.

The concept was grouped together with ENGL 105I. Also the requirements changed slightly for the ENGL intro courses and the English department wants everyone to understand the same basic principles of what it takes to write at UNC Chapel Hill.

In case anyone reads this thread for future reference, D wound up in heevery class she wanted including a tough FYS and a Philosophy class that is popular on campus. She was waitlisted for both math and chem but moved up to 1 on the list for math and enrolled in chem.

Bottom line it wasn’t difficult to get into your classes…eventually… you just have to pay attention and be patient.
