in college do people dress the same way as in high school? do people still wear casual stuff from hollister or american eagle or are people always rocking button down shirts and more formal type stuff?

people wear the same clothes they have in hs. sometimes, people decide that they want to dress up for class. in the hotel school, they are required to wear business casual clothes on fridays

on the Cornell website is a “Live Views” webcam…useless now during break but you can check it periodically over the next few months and see how students dress both in winter and spring.

dam memphismom thats like stalking … but your suggestion makes sense lol…

funny you should see it that way…there is a “Hi Mom” feature that gets a close up of a bench outside the campus store - my daughter calls it “Hi Stalker”…
however, this is really a good way for you to see a representive group of students dressed during various times of the year.

^hahahha that is brilliant

i find a lot less people wear hollister than where im from

honestly, just wear whatever you want, as long as you’re comfortable.

people don’t get a whole new wardrobe when they go to school, but keep in mind that everyone dressed differently in hs. there are lots of kids who dress a hell of a lot nicer than hollister and mall stuff in hs, so the clothes they bring from home to school will be a lot nicer than yours.

there are people who wear pjs and sweats every day. there are people who wear your basic adolescent mall clothes. there are people who wear leggings every day. there are people who dress more businessy or preppier or dressier. on any given day people have interviews or things to dress up for, so people will be dressed up for an actual reason. and there are people who just wear random crazy s*** to make a statement or because they think its cool.

nothing you wear “won’t be accepted”, but keep in mind that different groups have different standards. it all depends on where you find you fit in the school.

keep in mind though that college is a time for growth and change, and its a great opportunity to make a fresh start. I’m sure you’re current clothes will be more than acceptable and widespread, but why not use the summer before you go as a time to try some new styles, more mature or just completely different? You’ll get there and have a rare chance to recreate yourself in any way you want, and wardrobe can help you make that transition.

The only problem with webcam is you can’t see anything at night, so you can’t see what people are wearing when they go out.

My daughter left all of her “nice stuff” at home when she first moved to Cornell. We ended up making 2-3 more trips to bring everything to her. The idea of every college girl (I don’t have a son) wears sweat pants and backpack, not true. I think many Cornell girls are pretty stylish considering it’s in a middle of nowhere, maybe it’s because so many of them are from NYC area.
