hey, how many clothes are you guys bringing? and what types of clothes for socal?

Which college? I heard from one parent of a USC student said 3/4s of the students wear USC logowear. Lots of the boys wear t-shirts & jeans, shorts, or long pants. They also wear jackets & hoodies/sweatshirts when the weather is cooler.

Another mom said her son lives in t-shirts & brought up every t-shirt he owned when he moved in & now each time he comes home he brings home more & more t-shirts because he keeps getting new ones. We will just let our son bring what he likes--t-shirts, some polo shirts & perhaps a few collared shirts. He only has two pairs of Dockers slacks & lots of cargo shorts & some sweatshirts/hoodies & jackets, so will likely bring those. They have Target, Costco & tons of stores to purchase things at in SoCal. Logowear of your college will likely also be popular.

buy cheap clothes....this is not HS

you're not going to iron in college unless you're really a.nal. Bring stuff thats comfortable and wrinkle free.

When in doubt, pack light. Your folks can always mail you more or you can get more of your stuff when you return home during a break. Shipping is pretty cheap & most college housing doesn't have much storage, closet or dresser space.

well i read some other forums that said to bring a lot of clothes. im not quite sure now. im looking at usc or pomona

bring as many clothes as you think you'll need. some guys have few clothes, and some need a huge selection. do whatever works for you. just dont bring shirts that you haven't worn for six months, because if you didnt wear them then, why would you wear them in college? you'll barely need to iron clothes (if ever); if you fold/hang clothes as soon as they get out of the dryer, there'll be no ironing needed.

Bring 7 outfits.

You probably need more than seven outfits unless you plan on doing laundry frequently. Plus, the clothes you wear during the winter is likely different from ther lose that you wear in the summer.

unless you go to school in california where you can live with shorts + tshirts year round.

Even in SoCal, it gets pretty chilly in the "winter." Hubby has even worn THERMALS to Disney.

I wear a polo shirt every day. Most are Abercrombie & Fitch or Polo Ralph Lauren. At $50-$65 a pop, they're pretty reasonable because they last for a long time (I have A&F shirts from 2001 that I still wear now and then). Get basic styles like solid colors as they never go out of style. As for bottoms, any combo of khaki shorts, khaki pants, and jeans work nice.

Get a few button-downs for nicer events, and pack a few tees for the gym. Also, make sure you bring one each of the following: tennis shoes, brown casual shoes, and flip flops.

Polos are great, by the way, because they're comfortable, look good, and usually don't need much ironing.

^But that's so boring. Just bring everything you can for as much space as you have. The better dressed you are, the more popular you become.

It's not the clothes, it's the person.

Truer words have never been spoken

You can wear shorts and jeans until they walk. Just make sure you have 30 pairs of underwear and socks. They're really the only piece of clothing that needs to be washed after every use. That way...laundry only once a month!

Wear whatever you want, whenever you want. Just bring at least a week's worth of shirts, underwear, and socks and you'll be fine. (I'm assuming that you'll be wearing a pair of pants/shorts the day you get there. Well, I HOPE so, at any rate...)

I've lasted 2 months without doing laundry before. One word: Febreeze.

Bring two weeks worth of underwear and socks. Double that amount if you like to go to the gym.

well how much space is given at most colleges, and where do you guys keep your shoes.

They give you a little closet and a foot locker usually. Sometimes you'll get a dresser too.
