Hmm, on the floor? Im going to bring all of my blue formal shirts and white formal shirts, and an assortment of tshirts and polo shirts. I mean, mixing and matching is the answer, so that you dont look like you're wearing the same thing every week. Also, i have to try to figure out when it gets cold in Indiana, b/c im going to school there.

Himom pretty much hit it on the head for USC for my son, but with the addition of Wisconsin and UNC tees. On a recent visit we actually got him to allow us to buy him some shirts with collars that weren't from Old Navy. A big step.

ahahaha not from old navy a big step

please, whatever yall do, do not wear cargo shorts/pants or jean shorts... you will get absolutely no attention from respectable girls or fraternities, steer clear of abercrombie, hair gel, and jewlry. dont pop your collar, sag your pants, or wear socks with boat shoes.

of course it depends on the school you go to but i know that in the south, we are pretty preppy and conservative. on a typical day i will wear khaki pants or shorts and a polo shirt with top siders or rainbows.

some brands that are safe pretty much anywhere are polo, lacoste, vineyard vines, brooks brothers, sperry, patagonia, the north face, mountain hardware, columbia, new balance, rainbows, etc

you should bring a blazer, dress shirts, and ties if your planning on pledging or doing anything with a sorority, ie semi formals.

They're just clothes...

Wear what you want to wear. Screw what everyone else thinks.

I second what Clemson said about jean shorts, but at most schools in the north, Abercrombie is considered good. At my school it's what the hip crowd wears. If Abercrombie was a no-no, I'd be in trouble since 75% of my wardrobe is A&F. And yes, Polo is something you can't go wrong with at any campus.

What is wrong with cargo shorts?

well besides the fact that they look gay and are thug baggy, you dont really need them unless your carrying cargo or are in the army

When it's hot, I'll wear jean shorts. I have a girlfriend, and I don't want any attention from fraternities. :)

Clemsonbo you are an idiot. They are not baggy and they look fine. I see plenty of people wearing them.

I'm wearing jean shorts right now!!!

its good to know you need high performance layering fleece to stay warm and collars to, uhh, hmm.... but boat shoes seem practical enough, for that afternoon sail on the lake. and those crocodiles, oh how they protect us!

i do the whole preppy thing. and nice cargo shorts (not the shredded ones people buy at american eagle) are well within acceptable preppy bounds. as are flipped collars. not that it really matters. we are all pretty irrational in our fashion decisions.

the only fashion recommendation i would make for people going to college is to have a couple nice outfits. youre going to have to dress up... and you should probably look like you made an effort when you do. short of that, just do your thing.

as for abercrombie... if you like it, buy it. but if youre buying in an attempt to look cool in college, spend your money somewhere else... especially if youre headed to a 'preppy' school.

andrw, just cause you see "plenty of people wearing the" dosnt mean that theyre cool...

i agree with ericatbucknell in that nice conservative cargo shorts that dont go to your mid shin are fine, just not what i would wear

and if your buying abercrombie to look cool at a preppy school you can spend the same amount on polo etc and look a lot better

okay so what i make of this thread so far

jean shorts and cargo shorts are gay.
you cannot go wrong with polos.

Still wearing jean shorts. If it's hot, *** you going to do?

ahaha if its hot, ima wear some bball shorts.

dickies shorts look tight

do NOT wear jean shorts... gross

haha

This is a funny discussion, guys.

Coming from someone of the female species, I personally don't like shorts on guys - or on girls, for that matter. Pants are better, in my opinion. It might just be my preference, though.

yeah. jean shorts do look pretty gay now that i think of it.
