Cola transfer rejection - letter of appeal help

Hey there. I applied to COLA as Anthropology major from Houston Community College. I sent in my first transcript in February with a 3.2 and 27 hours. Since then, I took 23 hours this past semester and raised it to a 3.52 with 50 hours. I also sent in 4 letters of recommendation from professors related to my major, I did the optional essay, and I have extensive work and volunteer experience related to my field of study. I am also currently employed full time. I want to appeal my decision but I have no new information to include.

In my essays, I mentioned that I am first generation American and I also explained some hardships I overcame during my high school and community college years.

What should I include in my appeal? UT is my dream school because I have been looking forward to taking specific courses with professors I admire (also included in my essays). I want them to take note of the academic rigor that I endured this past semester, as well as working a full-time job.

Please give me some suggestions...I just earned my honors AS degree in Earth Science and I don't want to transfer to UH...

Regards,
Sarah

Maybe some specific information about the anthro dept at UT? Classes you want to take, professors you want to work with? (At other colleges this might help but I have no idea if it would really help at UT.)

Hey there, thank you for the suggestion - but like I mentioned above, I have already included specific courses, professor names, and why I am interested in them in my Statement of Purpose essay…I have no idea where to start with my letter of appeal…

That super sucks. I sent you a pm.

Instead of explaining why you want to be at UT, tell why UT should want you. You have to give admissions a reason to admit you over someone with a higher GPA.

Focus on your experience in the field-if you’ve been mentioned in the credits for anyone’s research, be sure to mention that (especially if any is published). Don’t just list the work and volunteer positions in your field, tell a few stories that highlight the contribution you made in those projects. It is okay to brag a bit if the info sheds new light on what you’d bring to UT!

Thanks. I just found out that my GPA was calculated differently by UT. Apparently to them I have a 3.26…

I am going to focus on my academic rigor this past semester and also let them know that I was out of the country for the majority of the semester. I hope they are open-minded and willing to put themselves in my position.
