I would guess this is correct based on what I know about recruiting generally. The problem is that Stanford doesn’t publicly disclose this information, and I at least don’t know anyone who has been in that position at Stanford. In addition, and as I have said before, I don’t think the ED/RD distinction matters as much as is presumed (even if we could get some semi accurate numbers) not only because of the raw numbers, but because i think people overestimate how many athletes are admitted in the ED round in the Ivys.
I do not know for the “major sports” at Stanford but I know for the non-revenue sports (or at least a few in particular), there is not a special track to admission. You have to get in completely on your own. If you do, great. If you do not, we would have loved to have had you.
A couple of schools have announced application numbers, not enough to disclose an acceptance rate, but in the absence of other news, I’m posting.
Here’s RPI: https://poly.rpi.edu/2017/04/05/rpi_receives_record_number_of_applications/ Some good information in the article, so recommend reading.

Rensselaer received the highest number of total applications in its history for the Class of 2021—a total of 19,485 applications, 1,018 more than last year—according to Rensselaer’s Office of Admissions. This represents a total increase of 5 percent from last year at this time, and an increase of over 28 percent over the past five years.
Acceptance rate data for the Class of 2021 is not currently public, but assuming a class size similar to last year’s of roughly 1,650 as well as a similar yield rate, The Poly estimates the acceptance rate for the Class of 2021 was between 39 and 41 percent with a margin of error of one percent for the range. For a slightly smaller class of 1,500 anticipated students, the acceptance rate was between 36 and 38 percent, with roughly the same margin of error.

Florida State University is more popular than ever among prospective first-time college students as a record number of applications were received for admission to the 2017 summer and fall semesters.
This year’s total application number of 42,325 announced on Thursday, March 16 — FSU’s second and final decision day — is a 16 percent jump over last year’s total of 36,429.
Students with admission notices have until May 1 to confirm whether they will enroll. FSU expects to enroll 6,400 freshmen in its 2021 class.

@spayurpets This is awesome and very useful, thanks for putting it together!
Lots of interesting data here…something I just noticed that maybe has already been acknowledged, but it’s interesting that UVA’s RD rate for OOS is just about the same as their EA rate for OOS. That’s good news for anyone who misses the EA date or decides to apply to UVA later than EA. Not sure if that varies year over year, but interesting nonetheless.
@DeepBlue86 Stanford admits most highly recruited athletes EA… I know that the entire haul of women’s swimming all of whom were ranked in the top 20 in the nation were admitted EA. Stanford competes with dual admits among its FBS athletic peers… Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Texas, Big 10, SEC schools etc. If anything what you are arguing is more applicable to Stanford since Stanford admits only about 35% of its class EA not 50% that the ivies do.
Wow. RD acceptance rates have gone way up for some schools and way down for others…still have no clue how tf I got into Brown with an acceptance rate RD of 6.5%???
from Maroon, see below – Thoughts ?
"The University of Chicago does not intend to release admissions numbers this spring for the Class of 2021. This includes the number of applicants and the acceptance rate.
“The numbers will not be final until the third week of fall quarter,” a spokesperson for the University said in a statement to The Maroon. The University has released these numbers in the spring in previous years, and many schools release admissions numbers around this time. All Ivy League institutions released these numbers last week.
The University sent out its regular decisions on March 17. It notified Early Action and Early Decision I applicants in December, and Early Decision II applicants were notified in February. This was the first year that the University offered Early Decision options."
UChicago is not releasing admissions statistics until the Fall. This is per Maroon. Thoughts?
I don’t think that is true. Even the transfer numbers will be set in stone by June. There are only two reasons for doing this and both suggest bad news. One is that there is a forensics audit in progress of admission data past and present and that won’t get done till late. Or maybe there is some real bad news in the numbers and they want to push it till the next class applies, so it doesn’t affect the next year’s application. They usually update their class profile only in Nov/Dec on the website. By that time the EA/ED apps for class of 2022 will be in.
@sbballer I do not believe you know most of the things you claim to know, because I don’t think you could know them unless you worked in admissions or the administration of the athletic department. Do you?
@denydenzig The UChicago numbers were already consistently released in admitted student receptions… We know apps are down by 2-3 thousand, and yield will be up. What “:real bad news” could it be?
@denydenzig @Chrchill perhaps UChicago is holding back because they expect to make some more offers in the late summer. Maybe they think some beds will open up, or they’ve deliberately underadmitted, and they expect to call around the waitlist before making the last offers and denying the others who are left on it.
@Chrchill I can only speculate that the app numbers are worse than 28K. Who knows? In any case there is no reason to wait till 3rd week of Fall quarter to release the results. Commits, Wait lists, Transfers everything will be done by June 15th the latest. A few stragglers in July maybe, thats it.
I think it is accurate to say final numbers aren’t available until third week of first term. Yield isn’t just a function of how many say yes, but of how many actually show up (and, where required, pay). This never stopped UofC from releasing info in the Spring before, so it’s an excuse but it’s not a lie. FWIW, they said 66% yield for Class of 2020 last Spring. The numbers this fall indicated it was more like 63.7%.

https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/page/profile-class-2020
This conversation is kind of funny because I have been taking note of where apps are significantly DOWN as a good thing–for a top school, at least.
More opportunity for my kids!
UChicago probably wouldn’t lie about application numbers, but those acceptance rates certainly may not be accurate. We don’t know how many the U of C will take off the WL over the summer.
We also don’t know what the U of C transfer numbers are.
Which just goes to show how naive it is to rank or judge a school by acceptance rate.
that’s why acceptance rate, yield and numerous other factors go into ranking . NO one factor is dispositive.
