Jones, Martel, Brown, Sid Rich, Hanszen, and now Lovett. (According to people on facebook.) So no Will Rice, Wiess or Baker... yet.

I'm still waiting.

I'm still waiting.

All the colleges are great. The differences are very slight.

Hahaha, Cobalt might be a Jonesian but she -really- wants to be in Brown!

All differences aside, you'll love whichever of the 8 colleges you get put in! There are great people at every college (except hanszen) (just kidding) (no really I'm seriously just kidding)

But I encourage all of ya'll to meet and make friends with people from other colleges, cause every college will have great people.

Any new brown kiddos yet around here?

any college you're in will be filled with awkward and diverse rice students ( they evenly distribute out minorities, archis, and musi's)

We just got the letter from the college masters: DS will be a Sidizen! :) Someone at Rice has a good sense of humor, because Dd is, of course, a Lovetteer. ;) And DS's AP scores came, and it's all good news.

We're still waiting to find out here in Florida.:( S is climbing the walls with anticipation (and I have to admit, I'm anxious to find out, too!)

DD heard today. Hanszen. she couldn't be happier. She secretly wanted it but was afraid to wish too much.

This is so much fun to watch the assignments come in! There will be a lot of living with constuction on both north and south campus, from what I hear. Hope it isn't too bad.

If the process is "random", how is that everybody is evenly distributed? Everyone seems to be equally represented in each of the colleges that it just seems odd that it could be completely random.

When you divide close to 1000 individuals into groups of 100, you tend to end up with fairly evenly divided groups. With some smaller subsets, it might not be entirely equally represented (some colleges' might have 4 archis in their freshman class, some might have 2) but overall the student body turns out fairly well distributed.

My son got his letter today - he's very happy to be a new, uh -- Brownie? Brownian? Brownnoser? Brunette? :p C'mon, Bildo, what do you call 'em? :)

I saw Brownie (just once!), in an O-week publication, but it wasn't written by a Brown college student - so I don't know! Congratulations, patsmom - I'm sure your son will love Brown!

My son will be in Brown. He, too, thinks they're called "Brownies." We're from Austin & he plans to major in math & physics. Even though he doesn't get on CC, if any Brownie wants to communicate with him, PM me & I'll get him to reply.

Any Brownie who wants to brag about what's great about Brown, please post.

Brownies is the closest you'll probably get, but I think we're just generally called Brown people or brown kids. We could probably be called Brownites too? Dunno really.

So, without further ado, here's part of what's great about brown (got to let the brown oweek crew, who are awesome, fill you in on the rest)

Great People: the group at brown is honestly such a great and diverse group of people, and probably one of the most active (as a college) that you will see. Brown people do -everything-, and you will usually see the majority of brown kids participating everywhere.

Better than Jones: Brown is, well, better than Jones, our arch-rivals.

Brown-Sid Connection: Some have discovered that there seems to be a special connection between Brown, the definite top northern college and Sid, arguably one of the best south colleges(Baker is great and worthy of love and props as well, and I'll be there advising during Oweek as well), in that many brown kids and Sidizen are friends with each other, and can be found hanging out with each other a lot.

Great masters and RA's. Our college masters and RA's are absolutely wonderful and we love them, but I'll let you find that out during oweek.

Good dorms: We might not have the best (A few colleges have freshman quads), but for doubles we certainly have good rooms. They're spacious, have good views, and what's more, you'll have a great time bonding and floorienting with those on your floor. Holla at me if you get 2nd, a.k.a. Brown's finest.

Sports: We rock sports.

Beer Bike: We rock Beer Bike, in both womens and mens divisions. Our ladies team won 2006 and our mens team won this last year, 2007.

Our traditions/cheers/etc: You will love them, but I don't want to give away too much before you all get to oweek.

Parties: Brown throws a whopping 2 of the school years 4 biggest public parties.

Associates: With such studs as John Ambler and Bill Pearsons, our associates include a lot of the best prof and community associates Rice has to offer.

Location: Okay, okay, so we might be a long walk from everything. It'll keep you healthy, and being a north college kid is something not everyone has the chance to be. We're the closest to the Lightrail, though, which is a trade-off.

Brown: Probably the best thing about Brown is the sense of being family type community. It might be a big, sometimes dysfunctional, family, but one that always looks out for each other, interacts and has fun with each other. I cannot stress how lucky you are, because I know all of us sophomores and above are excited to meet you all and make you part of Brown.

I've been intentionally a little bit vague, but if any of you are really curious about aspects of brown life, feel free to PM me.

But get excited. When I found out I was in Brown I was a bit offset, cause I didn't know anything about it. But then I learned a bit more about it and got really excited, and oweek and the rest of the year only superexceeded all my good expectations.

BSWB.

Since when is Margaritaville one of the top 4 parties?

Hm....I'm trying to remember what parties Brown throws ..... Fire and Ice....or is that Jones, I can never tell them apart.

I'll give Brown credit for Bachanallia, but other than that, they've got nothing. Plus, every time I've tried to go to a private party at Brown, I've felt this really weird vibe, as if all the Brown kids are thinking "wait, we let people from other colleges in here?" I will admit, though, that Brown is superior to Jones.

oh wow, parsons is an associate at brown? MAN, I'D TOTALLY DO PARSONS! HE'S SO COOL!

"3. Brown-Sid Connection: Some have discovered that there seems to be a special connection between Brown, the definite top northern college and Sid, arguably one of the best south colleges(Baker is great and worthy of love and props as well, and I'll be there advising during Oweek as well), in that many brown kids and Sidizen are friends with each other, and can be found hanging out with each other a lot."

;) you know a lot about that, huh.

just playing bildo. i will say that i do like brown and they have been very open and welcoming to me, an 'outsider' from jones.

Someone once told me that Brown was more like Weiss than like Sid. They seriously argued with me for like twenty minutes. I am from Sid and know that this is not true. But Brown and Sid do have a good connection. And Sid is the BEST southern college! By far!
