It looks like the freshmen college assignments are starting to arrive -- my son received his today. He's in Jones.

Was he notified via e-mail or regular post?

Regular mail. The letter was dated July 2nd and the envelope was postmarked July 5th.

I was just on Facebook, and it seems that all the people who have found out today are in Jones. I am so excited! I cannot wait until I get my assignment..

Awesome! Is there anyway to check the assignment online or through email? Because mail takes ages to get here sadly...

I just got my notification through e-mail.
So excited to know which college I'm in.

According to wikipedia:

"Jones is unique among the colleges due to the vast number of singles (36). This, in addition to 4 4-single suites and 2 6-single suites, means that most upperclassmen and essentially all seniors never have a roommate unless they want one"

"Freshman rooms are fairly standard with all but 8 assigned to a double and the rest assigned to two double-bedroom suites."

Yeah, if you found out you're in Jones and will be living on campus next year, you're most likely getting a double, unless you're one of four freshman guys or four freshman girls who gets one of the freshman suites. I'm a Jonesian myself, though I'll be off campus next year.

Welcome to all my new little arch-enemies, then. ;)

Yup. So those of us who haven't heard are probably not in Jones.

Dang, I want to know NOW!

Last year Sid Rich letters went out first. D got her letter about 2 weeks later!

I would like to extend my sincerest condolences to your son, and to snowyx1535. I know the future might look bleak right now, but there is probably something to be gained from attending Rice that outweighs the cost of being assigned to the worst college. All is not lost, I assure you!

yea jones!! jiba :)

if you're in jones and you have specific questions, holla at me. i'm living on campus next year on 3rd north so we will probably get acquainted at some point or another. i'm so excited to meet you all! you will love it.

JIBA! JIBA! JIBA!

Ds still hasn't found out - but it looks likely that he is NOT in Martel, Jones, Brown and Sid Rich (I think). Facebook group has reported in that they received emails with welcomes from those colleges, and DS has not received anything...so...he's still waiting. ;)

I got into Hanszen..so you can rule out martel, jones, brown, sid rich, and hanszen (possibly)..i am in the same city and i just received the letter today..

anxiousmom, don't count those out just yet. Only a handful of people from each of those colleges have found out (and there are over 400 members of that group). So, it's not like everyone from those colleges (Martel, Jones, Brown, Sid Rich, Hanszen) has heard yet.

There have been responses from Hanszen, Sid Rich, Martel and Jones so far.

But wouldn't the emails have been bulk mailed all at once? It hardly seems likely that the emails are sent out one at a time.... It's okay - I'm hoping he gets Weiss. They have nice facilities! :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think only people at Jones received theirs through emails yesterday. I think the rest received their letters today (or at least the majority of them did), such as Hanszen and Brown.

I really can't wait to get mine. This is the first time I hate the fact that there's no mail delivery tomorrow. >.<

anxiousmom - No, there would be no mass email. What happens is that the college assignments are made, and then it's up to the student O-week coordinators (with cooperation from the college masters/staff) from each college to send out letters/emails to their freshmen.
