College Classes Taken in the Summer/Dual Enrollment Courses

When applying to colleges, does my son need to send the transcripts from the summer classes he took at colleges (for college credit) and the transcripts from the College where he had Duel Enrollment courses? Or are these only sent after he has been accepted somewhere and decided to attend, same as official scores of AP tests?

Thank you.

You would send dual-enrollment college transcripts at the same time you send high school transcripts. Particularly since it’s dual-enrollment, they are PART OF the high school transcript.

Yes. DD took a dual enrollment course. She was REQUIRED to submit her college transcript because it clearly stated ON the application that all transcripts for ALL college courses were required. AND as noted by the above poster, because this also fulfilled a high school graduation requirement, it was CLEARLY noted on her high school transcript.

Thanks for the responses. Yes I realize the dual enrollment course is on his transcript. Thats why I was unsure if the transcript from the college had to be sent. So if all transcripts need to be sent, they need to be sent from the summer college course and the dual enrollment course? This means these 2 colleges will know the names of the other colleges my son is applying to?

Or just get sealed transcripts from the colleges and send them with the HS transcript? That’s my plan any way.

Ohh, I didn’t know you could do it that way! I thought the college had to send them directly to each college. Thank you!

Some colleges do want the transcript sent directly from the college, even when applying. What my son did was get an original transcript sealed in an envelope and stamped across the back from the registrar at the college. He then hand delivered that to his HS guidance counselor who was able to attach a copy of that to his HS transcript saying that it was authentic. Now that he’s accepted, he has to have the originals sent directly to his enrolled college. He took classes both as DC and a stand alone class a nearby college. The DC college was actually willing to send the transcript directly to the colleges he was applying to, it was just a matter of filling out a form and including the colleges mailing info.

Each dual enrollment school may handle it a bit differently. At my child’s school, dual courses are listed on the high school transcript, but they also usually send a transcript from the university involved. I think we ended up only needing to send college transcripts to the college he chose to attend, but I’m not entirely sure. It was quite easy to get the college transcript sent.

For the dual enrollment courses, we only sent the official college transcript to the college my sons enrolled. We never had to send in the official college transcipt for the dual enrollment courses since the grades showed on the high school transcript. Also, several colleges stated that they only wanted the college transcript once you decided to enroll and not before. Summer course transcripts that are not dual enrollment would need to be sent in with your college applications.

^us, too. Sent the college transcripts only to the college she chose to attend. As a new graduate, she was considered a first time freshman, not a transfer, so college transcripts weren’t needed for the admission decision. The hs transcript also lists the de courses and grades (except for the one online course). Sometimes, the hs course has another name. For example, “physics II” on the hs transcript is “Basic Physics” on the college.

Each school may different, however, and the best thing to do is ask.

our HS offers one course for dual enrollment, and students have the option of adding it to the HS transcript or not.

We sent dual enrollment transcripts from the comm college. Several of the colleges my D applied to asked for them. It was also really nice to have them evaluated prior to the acceptance to decide about transferability of credit. I.e. did the course transfer as a core requirement or just an elective.

I’m not sure I understand what you are saying here. The college where your child took the dual degree course will send a separate transcript to EACH college to which your child applies. College A will get a transcript, College B will get a transcript. BUT College A would have no way of knowing that College B also was sent a transcript from the dual enrollment college.

If you mean that the colleges where your child took dual enrollment courses will know that your son is applying to other colleges…then yes…they will know he is applying to other schools.

thumper1 - Yes I mean the college where my son took the dual enrollment course and the college where he took a class for college credit over the summer. Since he is applying to those colleges, that is a concern.

Why is it a concern? Colleges know that students are applying to multiple colleges…there are very few students who apply to ONE school only. Some students would apply to another college simply to be in a different geographic location.

When my kids applied to college there was actually a place to list other schools the student was applying to. My kids were very honest and listed all of their schools. They still got accepted to multiple schools.

It may also be that the office that issues transcripts may not be in direct communication with admissions.

In my case, the community college my kid took a class during summer is rather disorganized. I would rather send the sealed transcript myself than ask them to send it directly. When I tried to get the transcript last year, it took two months and an office invasion by me to get it finally.

Hi everyone, your posts in this tread are very helpful. Thank you.

My S, a senior, also has a similar question. He had a dual-enrollment class earned a local community college credit. His HS transcript doesn’t state that course as a dual enrollment course, and the title of the course are different. After reading your posts, I guess he needs to send in the community college’s official transcript. My question is: does he need to inform the colleges’ admission office that course is indeed a dual enrollment course?

My other question is: My S also took a Geometry course (at the same community college) in the summer right before he entered high school. Does he need to report that course too?
