Forgot to send transcript

<p>Hi,
This is my first time here. I came across this web site by accident. Also the college thing is all new to us (hubby and me). We came across a situation and I am hoping someone can give me some advice on how to handle this.
Here goes:
My son is a Senior this year in HS. For the past two years he has taken Duel Enrollment classes plus PreEngineering at a Community College. When my son graduates he will hold an Assc. Degree. All we heard (other parents too whose kids took this course) from the HS was when our child goes to college he/she will only have to take 2 years.
Fast Forward:
This pass winter my son applied for a college along with his other friends who took this Duel Enrollment classes. When the my son (and the others) filled out the application it stated what classes he is taken. My son checked Duel Enrollment and the PreE. at the Comm. College. The application did request for his HS transcript (nothing else). My son went to the Gudiance Counsler Office to have his HS transcript sent. All done
My son received his letter of acceptence. Then another letter came stating they cannot put him directly into Engineering classes and had to take University Studies first. Reading the description of the classes it is the classes he took the last two years.
Here is where I need help:
My son and his friends found out the HS did not send the College transcripts plus we (the families) did not know we had to send the transcript, no one told us and we are new to the college scene. What has me lost is on the college application it did not state send any college transcripts just the HS. We did send a College transcript last week.
One family is communicating with the College (one of the kids where accepted too). It does not sound good. Something about the child stay in the college dorm but go down the road at a Community College.<br>
Needless to say we are lost and sicken by this. The college is stating that the Engineering classes are filled.<br>
Has anyone ever expericened this or have any ideas what I can say to help my son get classes he applied for and not go down the road to a CC.
I hope I did not lose you. Sorry for any misspelled words and poor grammer. Just burned out and tired.
Thank you for any help

<p>You should contact the college on your son’s behalf.
Do not wait.</p>

<p>^
OP already said that she is communicating with the college.</p>

<p>You need to go to the high school and talk with the guidance counselor about this. He should call the university for you, and sort it out. If he can’t, then you need to get the counselors at the community college where you son is dual enrolled to help you. If that community college has a formal articulation agreement for your son’s major, then there shouldn’t be a problem. </p>

<p>It makes no sense at all for these students to enroll in another CC when they will have their complete Associate’s degrees! It is possible that the engineering classes are filled for the fall, but your son should get on a waiting list for them in case anyone cancels. Your son might also be able to enroll for the summer session or for second semester. He should ask about those options.</p>

<p>If you re-post this message in the Parents Forum, there are lot of parents whose children have completed dual enrollment programs who will have useful ideas for you. Use a title like “Son with dual enrollment having problems with university” so that you catch their attention. Here is the link to that Forum: [Parents</a> Forum - College Confidential](<a href=“http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/]Parents”>Parents Forum - College Confidential Forums)</p>

<p>Good luck!</p>

<p>Talk to the HS counseling director asap, but also realize that this really isn’t entirely their fault (go in with a plea for help, not with blame towards them in other words). While the common app. doesn’t ask for transcripts to be sent, you should know to have the CC send the transcript anyway. My S also did some DE classes, and so he sent CC transcripts although they weren’t asked for. Did the same thing for AP scores. Kind of the untold rules of applying, and sorry that you didnt’ know to send them. I think they’ll be able to work this out though, with some help from counselor and the college.</p>

<p>Why are you handling this? Have your son contact the college and his high school to find out the details. He’s the one who took the courses, and he would have the most information about the matter. </p>

<p>Traditionally, if you are looking to be exempt from certain courses, you need to send the transcript of your attended school to the college which you are applying to. This depends on policy, however. Some schools require it with the application, others will ask for that info after an offer of admission has been made and accepted. </p>

<p>Also, what school is this, by the way? Not all engineering programs will accept concurrent college credit. They may require you to take their specific courses, because the community college credits may be non-transferable.</p>

<p>What school? If you post this in their specific forum you may get responses from people who have students at the school, or students themselves, who may be able to shed some light on this.</p>
