Is American Eagle still okay to wear at college?

Hello all!

I am transfering to a 4 year state school this coming Winter Quarter. I'm a big fan of American Eagle and pretty much have only worn their clothes since my freshmen year of highschool. Is this brand a little too "immature" to wear on college campuses? What do college students usually wear. I know this post may seem a little shallow but I want to fit in and wear the right clothes.

Thanks for any help I may receive.

No one cares what you wear.

/thread

Easy to say that nobody cares, but she obviously does. Go scope out the campus before you buy your fall wardrobe would be my advice.

No, you absolutely can NOT wear American Eagle in college. Everyone will laugh at you for being a child.

Buy a new wardrobe NOW!!!

Yes, it is absolutely fine.

Yea nobody cares… so its really not worth wasting money on those expensive brand-name clothes

Lolz.

I’ve gone to class in PJs and a blanket.

People don’t care.

if you buy a new wardrobe because some prep on CC told you to, then do yourself a favor and transfer to a Walmart instead of a university

Honestly, most people I know don’t care about clothes, as long as your amount of clothes doesn’t crowd into roommate/suitemate space.

To This Mortal: wow hostile much. And Walmart=Gross. Not because of the selection but because of the people who shop there. Target is much better IMO

To everyone else: thanks I was just wondering if people would be as judgemental about clothes as in highschool. I’m glad it seems like they aren’t…but I hardly classify American Eagle as an expensive brand. I buy all my stuff during their sales anyways.

FdSciandNtrGirl, I think they are trying to let you know that college is more about learning and ideas than fashion :). It might also be about accepting nice people who shop at Walmart because college is expensive.

You will find people wear all kinds of clothes. And yes from everyone elses perspective, no one really cares. Generally speaking you are at place with fellow adults. If you wear something that really stands out (as in full cowboy gear), you might get a few smirks, or some immature students might snicker (that comes to people who really ask for it)
The hot trend for guys now a days is the long sleeve dress shirt (sometime with tie) tucked into blue jeans, with sneakers.

to Moreover: You are correct. But I only said Walmart=Gross because of the TYPE of people not the size of their bank account. In my area a lot of sleazy people (and I say sleazy because of their attitudes) shop at Walmart so I never go there anymore. I don’t judge based on fashion or brands but I know a lot of people do even though they would never admit it.

To Tyler: Thank you for your comments!

Good luck at the new college- I hope you love it:)

Sure. I only bought my first hoodie (moved from somewhere year-round warm) after I started college, and it was from AE because they were having some sale at the time. I see girls and guys both wearing AE and even Aero quite frequently. Just don’t dress tacky. Some pieces of those high school brands looks unbelievably childish, but others look fine.

OP: I wasn’t trying to be hostile, just trying to make a point that you needn’t worry about your clothes. As others have said, most colleges have a range of wardrobes. You’ll see a kid in red pants with a blue shirt wearing boat shoes and in the same class there’ll be someone in his pyjama pants and a sweatshirt wearing slippers.

To This MortalSoil: okay then I apologize and Thank you for your advice!

Muscovy: Thanks for sharing! and I agree that some of the clothes are super childish especially from Aeropostale.

moreover: Thank you and I hope I love it too! :-)

It’s not a huge deal, but I would suggest you branch out to brands that are considered more mature- simply because you might want to begin buying more professional looking classes.

Wear things that you like, that look good on you, and that are comfortable. If your American Eagle clothes fit this description, wear them. People aren’t going to make fun of you.
