Eckerd is on the beach, and has a strong science program. No engineering though.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo is by the ocean but Im not sure about their academics. UH at Manoa is a more respected school but I dont know how far away from the beach it is.

Hawai’i at Manoa is a pretty short bus ride from the beach.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

One of the best engineering universities in the world.
5 minute drive to the coast. Pismo beach, which is REALLY nice, is 10 minutes away from campus.
cheap price.

overall a great school in a gorgeous area.

U Victoria in Victoria, British Columbia is within walking distance of the beach. Same goes for UBC in Vancouver.

Queen’s U and McMaster U in Ontario are next to Lake Ontario.

You may not want to swim at any of these, especially during winter ;)

USNWR Undergraduate Engineering Rankings of Colleges facing the Ocean

Highest Degree PHD
19. Univ. of California–San Diego 3.7
34. Univ. of California–Santa Barbara 3.4

Highest Degree Bachelors or Masters
26. University of San Diego 3.2

<a href=“Login - www.usna.com”>US Naval Academy Alumni Association & Foundation - www.usna.com;

Webb Institute
(on their own private beach)

UC-Santa Barbara, UC-Santa Cruz, University Of Miami, College Of Charleston

Two LACs: Bowdoin is 10 minutes from the coastline in Maine (depends on what kind of beach you had in mind) and St. Mary’s Honors College of Maryland (along a lovely stretch of river). But no engineering…

University of South Carolina Beaufort is in the low country. Savannah College of Art and Design (doubt it has engineering, though!).

Almost everyone has ignored his budget. UCs are over $50k/yr for OOS. CSUs are about $30k/yr, but they typically take more than 4 years. All of the privates are over $30k. Too many kids not paying attention to cost until it’s too late!

I’ll just list all of the schools that I know are near the beach:
UC Santa Cruz
UC Santa Barbara
Cal Poly SLO
Humbolt State
Long Beach State
Pepperdine
UCSD
UCI (It’s right next to Newport Back Bay and maybe 20 minutes away from the Wedge)
UC San Diego
University of San Diego
San Diego State
University of Miami
University of Hawaii- Manoa (might have mispelled that)
Florida International University (It’s near Miami)
Florida Atlantic University (It’s near Miami)
Florida Institute of Technology (Melbourne, Fl)
University of South Florida (It’s in Tampa, but I’m not sure how close that is to the beach)

Endicott College, Beverly, MA

UMass Boston, Dorchester, MA

Monmouth Univ in NJ is 5-10 minute bike ride from the beach, as is Conn College. (the latter used to have it’s own beach).

Boston Univ showed us the “BU beach” on our April tour. That’s when my daughter turned to me and said NO.

Marquette is 10 minutes from Lake Michigan - nice in July & August, but that’s it!

Your looking at very, very few choices for under $25k on the beach.

I agree that UCSD and UCSB are excellent choices, but over the OP’s budget if he is OOS.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (SLO) has an excellent engineering program and is on the beach. (It’s on the central coast, so it doesn’t have tons of sunshine like further south.) I think that their engineering students DO finish in four years, because it is an impacted major. They very tightly control which classes engineering students take so that they get their degree done on schedule.

I know a freshman there in Mechanical Engineering who said he didn’t register for his classes this year at all-they just gave him his schedule.

^ CalPoly is a good fit in many ways, but it is not “on the beach”. It’s a few miles away.

College of the Atlantic is on the ocean. Not sure it’s what you’re looking for but they have an exchange program with Olin College of Engineering.

I agree with Endicott College and UNC-Wilmington. UNC-Wilmington isn’t right on the beach though, but Wrightsville Beach is like 10 minutes away and it’s honestly probably my favorite beach, out of all that I’ve been to. It’s also in the same town where One Tree Hill and Dawson’s Creek were filmed in.

Texas A and M Galveston–if you like Marine Biology
