Good: Cal State Northridge (CSUN "see sun") rolls off the tongue.

Bad: Cal State Chico (CSUC "see suck") also rolls off the tongue.

You thought you were being funny? That post was an attempted joke, eh? The funny thing to me is that you actually thought it was funny. LOL Now that's funny.

Some of those already mentioned have been good, but the undeniable worst college name is Rust College in MS. Their student newspaper is called "The Rustorian."

I never found the name "Dartmouth" attractive :(

I like the name Dartmouth! haha, and Princeton and Vanderbilt, bc I think it sounds.. prestigious. and the nn Vandy is cute :)

Bad: I don't really like the name Furman

Most of my relatives, when asked which great school they went to in northern California, say Boalt or Stanford.

By the way, I see from another thread that wrathletik does not attend UCB, although he is apparently transferring in for Spring, 2006. But, not everyone at Cal is like him.

Bad: Dartmouth, Swarthmore, Dordt, Harvey Mudd, Clemson, Bob Jones University (or even better, BJU), and Wartburg...ew
Good: Columbia, Notre Dame, Princeton, Harvard, Amherst, Arcadia, Vanderbilt, Marquette
Just plain fun to say: Renssalaer (also gets points for creative spelling)

I like Harvey Mudd's name. I'm among the few.

LOL

Boalt is here AT Cal. Yes, I did transfer for the spring. And seeing as how the spring semester already started, well it would seem that I do attend Berk, doesn't it? Look, this has gone farther than it should have. Call it Cal, Berkeley, UCB whatever. It's not really that important.

After reviewing this thread, it's apparent that one of the most commonly cited examples of a "good" name is "Princeton University". Presumably Americans think that it has an aristocratic British sound.

Ironically, it has the opposite effect on many Brits. Princetown is supposed to be one of the most desolate, poorest towns in England, and is the home of maximum-security Dartmoor Prison. In England, "Princetown" apparently has the same kind of cachet as "Leavenworth" or "Alcatraz" in the US.

Best: Carnegie Mellon, Georgetown
Worst: Tufts, Tulane

best: Vanderbilt, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton
worst: Tulane
Weird: Rice, Tufts, Brown, Dartmouth, Yale

feenotype, that sort of makes sense. It seems to be that way, although either way, Cal or Berkeley, could be used to describe any aspect of the school.

I like Tulane! Also, Duke (very regal!), Vanderbilt, Princeton, Cornell, Emory

Bad: D'Youville College (http://www.dyc.edu)

Worst: Columbia, Brown
Ok: Cornell

Worst: "THE Ohio State University"
What jerks.

RENSS*E*LAER...
