I am ashamed.

I always liked the name, Colgate. It sounded like it had a lot of old-line northeastern tradition to me. Maybe, since I always used Crest, I never associated it with toothpaste. Other favorites are Princeton, Dartmouth, Cornell, Bucknell. I've always liked the two syllable names the best.

Worst: Yale (because people in Southern Texas who actually have the exact opposite of what most people consider a "Texas accent" say Yell.)

-Where do you want to go to college?
--Yale.
-Are you that hard of hearing?

Also, I love SMU, but they have a building called the "Dedman Life Sciences Building."

Best: Duke, Princeton, Stanford, Dartmouth, Marquette, Richmond, Washington & Lee

You mean Gustavus Adolphus...come on people the man was a king give him some credit.

Best: Oberlin, Dartmouth, Vassar, Carleton
Worst: Case Western, Harvey Mudd, Muhlenburg, Occidental, Simon's Rock College of Bard, Walla Walla

Best: Vassar, Yale, Harvard, Williams, Colby, Duke, Vanderbilt, Brown
Worst: Bowdoin, Amherst, Colgate, Willamette, Bucknell, Drexel (definitely the worst for last)

I love names that are phonetically easy to pronounce and that would look good on a sweatshirt...I also just hate how the name Bowdoin looks, but I love the school.

I don't really see any difference between the best and worst lists. I certainly like the name Amherst before Vassar or Colby.

People mispronounce Amherst all the time...that is why the name bothers me. I like names that are easy. I love Amherst as a school, though.

It's funny that there are only 428 posts in this thread, but 31,000 views....

As to Vassar, what is attractive in the name? The "ahhhhh," the syballance (a sound I dislike), the "er" at the end? What's there to like?

there's a college called slippery something university in pennsylvania...i'd say that takes the cake.

brand_182: Slippery Rock University.

that's the one lol

Ha...they announce the "Slippery Rock" score at all of the UT football games. They are obsessed with that name.

BEST: THE FU!! FUUUUUU (Columbia engineering)

bowdoin
case western reserve
tufts
yale
harvey mudd
pitzer

to name a few

don't know if it's been mentioned but i'd like to add:

Wayne State University

best name: villanova

it means "new home"

Kalamazoo and College of the Ozarks are ones I like

really when i first read kalamazoo i was discouraged to even check it out...haha...something a/b having zoo in the name

but that shows my immaturity, and i'm not ashamed of it. Just like Duke's b-school, Fuqua. I don't know if I could handle it.

"What school are you going to?"
"Fuqua"
