Worst_
Iona College -- no I don't. With the cost of tuition, they own us!

lol jym626. There is also an 'assisted living community' called Iona where I live...not the best of associations.

To bad Washington University can't just call themselves St. Louis University. I think wustl should make st.louis university change their name :p

what you guys think of Cornell?, good or bad, average i say...

The thing about WUSTL is that "Washington" isn't even the name of one of the founders or alum. The school was founded or something on Washington's birthday. Hmm...
And SLU shouldn't have to change its name cause it's older than WUSTL.

Worst: Stamford (since N is next to M, people might think the M is a typo)

Best: Columbia, Georgetown, Dartmouth, Penn State

Worst: The Evergreen State College, Eugene Lang College, College of Wooster, CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY, Wabash College

I like the way it sounds, but it doesn't sound very prestigious like the others: Susquehanna University

worst: Swarthmore, it sounds uppity and reminds me of spit?

lol this thread is hilarious :D

The Good: Princeton, Columbia, Amherst

The Bad: Bates, Colgate, Rice

The Ugly:
*Bowdoin (I've heard it pronounced as BOW DOWN, BOW DWANG and BODWIN.)
*Gonzaga (sounds like a gross cheese)
*Pepperdine (preppy like a minty toothpaste)
*Bryn Mawr (weird spelling and sounds southern like you're asking someone to "brin' more" or "grin more")
*American University (duh)
*Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia (name speaks for itself)
*Wooster (too close to rooster, and what do you call wooster students? woosterians, woosies?)

Best: Oxford, Furman, College of Charleston
Worst: Bob Jones (Why do they have to use "Bob"; "Robert Jones" wouldn't sound that bad), "Clempson" (Clemson)

Worst - Bates, Harvey Mudd, Tufts, Colombia, Bowdoin, Colgate, Purdue, Skidmore
Best - Stanford, Harvard, Pomona,

Worst--Marlboro, Pepperdine, Gonzaga, Mass/Cal etc. Institute of Technology, Brown

Favorites: Harvard, Stanford, Georgetown, CalTech, Yale

Strongly Dislike:

Princeton (reeks of elitism)
Colgate (I can't help thinking of toothpaste)
UPenn
Swarthmore
Tufts

How can u like the name Vanderbilt?

Skidmore.

It's a good school and all but everytime I see the name I hear a voice in my head, "Hit the skids at Skidmore..."

Also Case Western Reserve. It sounds like a national park or something.

Colorado School of Mines
Tufts

Good: Carnegie Mellon, Rollins, Wellesley, Wesleyan, and Macalester.

Bad:
Skidmore
Brown (they should be Purple or Blue University instead)
Vanderbilt
Goucher

Absolute Worst:
Chief Dull Knife College in Lame Deer, Montana!

Worst:
Beaver College (I'm so glad Arcadia changed its name)
Chico State University

D'Youville College
Paducah Tech!!!
Walla Walla College (Go Walla Walla, GO!!!)
Juniata College

Best Name:
Emory & Princeton (the names sound like Ivory Towers)
Pomona & Arcadia
Macalester

Worst

Bryn Mawr: How the hell do you pronounce that? Brian Mower?
Dyke College: They may have since changed the name.
Bates: Is it a motel or a college?
It used to drive my buddy crazy that schools like Kent State and Ball State had "state" in the name but wern't preceded by the name of a state (Ohio State, Michigan State)

Best:

THE Ohio State University: say it with authority and people know you are from Ohio
Rhode Island School of Design: just sounds cool.
University of Maryland-Baltimore County: Very specific

Some schools with obviously funny initials: COW (College of Wooster),
FU (Fordham University), IUPUI (Indiana Unversity-Purdue University Indianapolis), UIUC (University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, not funny but the regions name is Champaign-Urbana which would be UICU which is ten times funnier), BJU (Bob Jones University)

IIT-- Indiana Institute of Tech.
A:'oh im an iit grad! gimme a job'
B:'but ur not indian'
A:'aww.. i wish i went to the real iit'
