I just got an email from Columbia graduate that he wants to schedule my Early Decision interview on Dec.27 which is 2 weeks after the decision date – does this mean my ED application was deferred or is he just not aware of the ED interview deadline? I’m freaking out.
I called the undergraduate admissions office but the staff didn’t clearly tell me what to do but to just finish the interview before Dec.12, the decision date. (which doesn’t make any sense since all ED results have been confirmed)
Maybe they’re on the fence about your application and the interview will help them decide? Just speculation obviously, take my opinion with a grain of salt.
In my personal experience with college interviews, that probably means you have been deferred to the regular decision pool. @wlsgus
@EarlyAction2020 @honeyblackdog Just got an email from the interviewer that he’ll check with the office – he said sorry for the confusion and seems like he made a mistake
Cornell came out today and seemed like a total mess. It made this whole thing feel so much more real!!
Im freaking out a little here. ughh
hahaha: don’t be worried about the huge Shred-It truck. Everything is scanned and digitized. You WANT those papers shredded!
@gportela8 Im from orlando!
I don’t think I can properly sleep for the next 3 days. #askingforafriend
@wlsgus do hw, other apps, or relax, Neflix, hang out with friends, exercise, etc. Stay busy (you cant still relax and be occupied with a book or something).
Well, looks like I will be opening my application half-puking, as I got hit by de flu bigtime. Awesome. Now time seems to pass even slower
@wlsgus CAN* not can’t sorry
hello everyone! I’ve been lurking on here for years but Columbia’s decision coming out so soon made me finally realize I need support to get through this - good luck to you all!!!
Roughly 600 will be accepted Early Decision. I’d figure that about 200 are athletes.
So, that leaves around 400 slots.
Perhaps 3500 applications for Early.
I would think that most of those 400 slots will NOT be surprised by their acceptance.
Sadly, every year, the pool of applicants grows and there is increased competition for these precious few slots.
To me, the best thing about being accepted ED, is that the process of college search ENDS.
However, for the vast majority, you are left with the uncertainty of RD.
So, ironically, those that have the very best qualifications and best resumes are SPARED the agony of RD.
And those who a just a step behind must live through the stress of waiting until April.
You will all find a place. For some, Monday will be the end of your journey, but for most, it is just a detour sign.
If you want to stress out, do it AFTER your decision comes out and then kick ass on your remaining applications.
Come January 1st, you’ll have to put it out of your mind until late March.
I wish that RD notifications (for most schools) were earlier than April because it’s sooo hard to wait that long! Especially when I’m trying to make decisions as soon as possible and have to spend an extra 4 months waiting to hear from only 2 our of the 12 schools I applied to.
@onefiftyfive pretty sure your data is skewed but oh well I don’t work in Columbia’s admission office either, so what can I say.
actually I just found this article saying 45% of the students were accepted ed, so that means~1000 are accepted ed.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2016/04/08/columbia-university-about-45-percent-of-freshmen-admitted-early/?utm_term=.ce84c914e016
It says they fill around 45% of their class through ED, but the actual acceptance rate ED was 18.7%, which includes athletes.
These next three days are going to kill me… Monday is the last day of the semester (before midterms) at my school and I just know I’m not going to be able to focus AT ALL in any of my classes
Why isn’t there a thread of “Columbia ED Class of 2021 RESULTS”? Can any of you build one?
I’m making one right now! I’ll post the link as soon as I’m done
