Super hyped even just to send my app in
I’m torn about whether to apply early to barnard or columbia
Can’t decide whether to apply ED here or to Stanford where I have legacy ugh college
@julia1999 yur chance at stanford is prob higher than. i would do stanford unless u really like columbia more
I’m new here but Im applying ED so… hey there
Heyyyy
So I got a 2 on my AP World history exam, do you guys think I should include it on the common app? Will the admission officers think its weird that I took the class but didn’t report a score for it?
@popper345 if you don’t report it they sometimes assume you didn’t pass, so they’d be guessing between a 2 and 1. Use your own judgement as to whether to report it
Hi guys! I’m a current freshman who applied ED last year and I’m happy to answer any questions you guys have about the app or columbia in general. I highly encourage all of you to apply, I LOVE it here, applying ED was the right choice for me for sure!
How have your workload been the first few weeks at CU?
Another current CC freshman. Please feel free to ask me anything! RD international applicant.
@thetsaria What country are you from?
@londondad Canada!
Less than a month left!
Hey everyone! I’m really worried about Columbia; I’m so scared, because as of now I don’t have a spectacular SAT score… I’m okay in everything else though-- APs, GPA, SAT II’s, and extracurriculars. I’m in New York, and I even attended the Columbia Summer Program for one summer-- if this information even helps. I’m honestly having second thoughts on doing early decision, because I’m afraid of rejection and think that my SAT score may not be enough :(… Anyone have any advice?
Hello guys! :-h After reading all the comments in this thread and how knowledgeable everyone is on the ED process at Columbia, I was wondering if you could answer my inquiry. On the admission website and on the Common App, the agreement that you sign for ED is a bit confusing to me. I am not sure if you can apply to other schools that have EA, since it isn’t really explicit about the ED restrictions like some other colleges (such as Cornell). I hope you could give me some insight about this! Also, everyone is really well-rounded so I was wondering what your Standardized Test scores are or your GPA is. I think compared to statistics online, I am mediocre in the application pool at best, so it would be great to see how other people are like before the application process begins! Thanks!
You’re allowed to ED to Columbia and EA at other schools provided that those other schools are not “restricted” EA programs like Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford (and a few others)
@CelestialAP How many times have you taken the SAT?
I never got the appeal of ED. I did RD for Columbia and all the other schools that I applied to. The only reason ED is nice is because then you only have to do one application, but I took ALL the time in between the ED deadline and the RD deadline to build my application, build my portfolio, refine my essays, etc., etc., and in the end it paid off. I’d be willing to bet the stuff I did in those couple crucial months were the only reason I got in here.
IN other words, pushing your submission off a couple months might be useful if you feel like you can use those months to improve your application, and can afford to apply to a bunch of schools.
@Tshiknn I took the SAT twice. First time, I got a 2000 (old scale). Second time, I recently took the new SAT and I am currently waiting for the results. It was foolish of me not to take the SAT more times… I thought a 2000 was a good enough score, and I didn’t want to take the new SAT, because I thought it didn’t have “as much” value as the old one-- this was during the time the old SAT transitioned to the new one. I’m also a legacy student, if that helps? I just want to maximize my chances of getting in! I know it’s all based on a “holistic” scale, and luck, but I’m just conflicted about what to do.
@CelestialAP Take my opinion with a grain of salt, please - I’m no expert on the admissions subject, by any means. I feel like if you can use the time between the ED deadline and the RD deadline to sharpen your application, you should take that time, especially if there’s a question of your most recent SAT scores. 2000 is shaky for admission to Ivies - generally, I’ve heard that 2100+ (or 1400+) is the zone where it won’t detract from your application, and probably 2200+ or maybe 2250+ is the point where it will actively contribute to your application. Something like that.
Re: legacy, you’d have to seek other sources. I don’t know any legacy students.
