that’s what I was trying to say at least, idk about llooopi. i thought he said didn’t.

So i’m pretty bummed i didn’t get one, especially since i applied to SEAS. Does anybody know the percentage of students who get them? Also, is it possible that they haven’t even read my application at this point? I’m also curious what some of your stats were?

I don’t think Columbia releases that kind of information but if you look at the number of people who have received likelies in the Dartmouth thread and compare it to Columbia, Dartmouth obviously sends out a lot more. I can say right now that there are probably 400-500 people in the Dartmouth Class of 2015 directory right now. Although I do realize not everybody who gets likelies make an entry into the directory, that’s not even a quarter of the number of acceptances that Dartmouth will eventually have to send out in order to get a freshman class size of ~1,100 students taking into account their yield rate of ~50%. And Columbia is, looking at the people who are posting on this thread, sending out much less likely letters.

tl;dr: The large majority of people who will be accepted are probably not going to get likely letters beforehand. I wouldn’t sweat about this too much if I were you. Enjoy Senior year!

dont wry guys, likelies only get to the lucky ones whose applications are on the top of the stack.

btw netsman lol are you being serious? I don’t think they send “likely to get rejected” emails, but I seriously might be reading too much into ur sarcasm lol

ya sorry, i meant that i didnt get one. id be jumping for joy if i did haha

and i guess we will still have to see…doesnt look like my new york dream gets to be realized early! oh well!

i guess it does make me feel better that i still have a fighting chance

I just had a question, I’m not from the United States and I was wondering as to what exactly is a “likely letter” as given by Columbia, does it correspond to an “acceptance decision”. I myself have applied to Columbia’s Engineering program (SEAS) and haven’t received anything regarding interviews or the likely letter but I’d love to attend and study at Columbia. I’m just hoping for the best.

Likely letters usually say something like “if you keep your academic performance at the current level, you will receive an acceptance letter come March.” They are given usually to recruited athletes who have to decide way before March and top students of the applicant pool.

Very few people get likely letters. That’s the point of likely letters. Don’t sweat! The vast majority of accepted students will not have gotten a likely letter.

just out of curiosity, roughly how many likely letters are sent out?

same question as above… and, were any sent out for cc??

i got a likely letter from columbia college…i wasnt contacted for an interview either

In letter form or via email? Is your tracking system any different? I’m not gonna get one, but I’m curious. Congrats!

I got an email first and then the same text in letter form a few days later.

I got a likely fm CC, but considering the record number of applicants and the fact that they haven’t reviewed all the applications yet, I’m a little concerned about the small chance they may decide to not accept me after seeing many other stellar applicants.

How does a school make “likely decisions” if they haven’t seen all the applications?

@theEnigmaaa: Don’t worry - you’re in! That’s exactly the point of likely letters - you are so far ahead of all the other applications that it doesn’t matter. They really want you to matriculate at Columbia. You are the top 300 or so applicants out of 35,000 people. Unless you get a D or something on your Mid-Year Report, you’re almost guaranteed to get an acceptance letter on March 30. So relax!

Wow I hate all of you that got likelies :P. Just kidding congrats! I’m jeeeaaaallllooouuusss!

some people here definitely got likelies, but i think some people aren’t telling the truth. i dont know, it just feels like it

I got an unlikely letter. :(

^ I’m sure you worked hard for it :)

My son got a Columbia likely letter (CC) this week - he’s from AZ.
