How AZ?

The state of Azirona Grand Canyon State?

Yep, he goes to a public IB high school in Phoenix. No likely letters from any other schools.

I just got one for CC

If likely recipients would not mind saying - What time and date were the likely emails sent to you? Thanks

I just got one, so excited!

^^^^ what did it say?

Just got one today for CC. At 6pm West Coast time.

Here’s the text of the beginning of the letter:

And it goes on to talk about admitted students days and stuff.

I’m so excited. I am freaking out!!! Congrats to all who have gotten likelies, and to those who haven’t, don’t worry–the vast majority of applicants accepted will not have gotten likely letters.

Oh, and I was deferred from Yale (like Silverturtle), which is a bit funny, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

I am not a URM or an athlete and do not have any other sort of hook.

lol I was deferred by Yale too. That sent me into a pit of a panic, but I guess I can relax now. People were right when they said to not read too much into a deferral. Easier said than done though.

Congrats quomodo! I got the same letter at the same time, since ivyhopeful15 was wondering. I’m so proud of the College Confidential community that so many of us received likely emails! I didn’t even know that Columbia College sent out likely letters.

Yeah, me neither, jgedwards. When I saw the message in my email with the subject “Your Application to Columbia” I thought they were gonna tell me I was missing something! And nne718, now I remember you from the Yale SCEA threads. Silverturtle got a likely too I think, and he was deferred also–I guess Yale doesn’t know what it’s doing! ;)

My D got one yesterday evening. Yale deferred. Excited!

Is it normal practice for likely letters from the same institution to be delivered in batches like this? I guess they have finally reached the second end of the app pile and are discovering more great candidates there. I just wonder whether Columbia is awarding an unsually large number of likelies this year, and if so, why or to what effect.

CONGRATS!

To the people who were deferred from their EA choices…Did any of you guys change your application after being deferred?

I changed my Common Application essay quite a bit after being deferred…and I wonder if changing my essay correlates to my getting a likely letter…? Or maybe the essay has nothing to do with it (which could very well be the case) and all the top schools are just random in their selection?

I made a few tweaks to my commonapp essay, but I don’t think they were substantial changes. Columbia didn’t get the essay that I wrote for the Yale supplement, and I think that made a difference. My supplement wasn’t very good. It was really rushed. Yale also didn’t get my subject test scores at the time, and one of the recommendations was different (the one I changed was from a 10th grade teacher, which Yale doesn’t seem to favor). I also fixed some typos in the commonapp here and there.

I really wish that colleges would have more “standardized” (I don’t know if this is the most accurate word to describe what I’m trying to say) method of choosing applicants. Or a more consistent way, maybe, is what I’m trying to say. I was deferred early from Stanford and I really thought my Stanford deferral meant I wasn’t going to get into any other “top” school…But then my Columbia likely came and now I’m slightly more hopeful. But a Columbia likely is no indication whatsoever of my chances of getting into other Ivies…Sigh. :(

Also got one last night after they finally received my SAT scores (after three sends). Congrats everyone!

Any international students applying for financial aid got the email?

wait. so it seems that all of columbia’s likely letters aren’t going out at the same time. does that mean that some could still be going out in the near future?

I wouldn’t expect them to send any more past next week. I think Harvard is sending likelies up to the 15th, so maybe Columbia is similar.
