Columbia SciencesPo. Dual Degree Fall 2014

Hey guys, I’m also an applicant to the program and have been offered an interview few days ago. I’m quite nervous and excited at the same time! I think it would be great to share some tips in regards to the interview with each other here. I would also advise you all to look at past threads - some people have actually shared their interview experiences there. :slight_smile: Best of luck to all of you!

Thank you @GSTourGuides for clarifying!

@augustsnowstorm, reading the essays over seems to be the best thing we can do. I think researching the site in France is probably the second-best thing we can do!

are you guys going to Columbia or doing it via skype/telephone?

SickofApps-

Do you mean researching the campus we marked as our first choice?

I will be doing my interview over Skype as I am from the west coast haha

augustsnowstorm,

yes I meant researching the campuses. It would probably be nice if we knew many things about the specific city we applied to (like knowing the Cathedrale in Reims for me).

makes sense that you’re doing a skype interview. I’m curious to know how many people live close enough to do an in-person interview!

You might also want research a bit on current developments in the region and field you indicated interest in through your application. For example, if you said you want to study Economics at the Menton campus it might be a good idea to look into current economic issues in the Middle East.
Good luck to all of you!

Same question as lafontana above—if we haven’t gotten any sort of email, is this a bad sign?

@howaboutno, I believe the interviews are scheduled on a case-by-case basis, and so it does not necessarily mean that you’re at a disadvantage if you haven’t been offered one. So don’t worry about it!

Thank you Tine for the useful advise!
@augustsnowstorm, I’m also doing a skype interview or via phone because I live overseas, but they could contact me either way because the internet connection might be unstable on the day.

For those of you doing the interview via skype, you could also search up in Youtube about the visual presentation aspect of the interview, such as the camera angle, and the lighting. Although, the content and the presentation of your answers to their questions are what matters the most, how you present yourself and how you look is also a big factor in my opinion.

International applicant, Skype interview :slight_smile: Are there any current students on this thread who are or were at the Le Havre campus?

@coffeefloat
That is my biggest fear with skype/phone calls - connection. It probably would reflect badly if your phone completely lost connection during the phone call eh?

@polythenepam12
If you look at last year’s or 2 years ago’s thread, there’s someone there from Le Havre who detailed it pretty well

I went to the Le Havre campus 2010-12. How can I help?

 • Tine

Any menton folks out there?

Hi Tine, I guess I was just curious about the experience. I know for sure that I’m interested in Asian studies but will I get the opportunity to study European languages as well? Also, how did you generally feel about the campus?

@polythenepam12, For non-francophone students, I believe we have the choice to study French, but otherwise, we have the chance to study a variety of Asian languages, which I personally am really interested in learning!

At all Sciences Po campuses arriving students have to take a language placement test and then take classes accordingly. For non- francophone students you have to take french classes all throughout your time there or until you reach level C2. On top of that you have the choice between the Asian languages Chinese, Japanese, Hindi, Korean and Indonesian (at Le Havre) and obligatory Arabic with the choices of Turkish, Hebrew, Spanish and Italian (at Menton). Sciences Po does not usually let students take more than two languages at a time though.

If you have any further questions you can always send me a private message so I can give you a more personal answer :slight_smile:
Tine

Hi, I’m applying to the Reims campus, and I also received an interview! I’m flying to New York, but I was wondering two things: are there any specific SciencePo specific interview elements (ie the presentation) and how soon the admission decision is given . I apologize if these answers are already given somewhere in the feed!
Thanks!

@SaraSmith1256
I think admissions decisions are given late March (they were last year) around March 28.

Glad to see someone else has also applied to Reims :)

Did anyone have the interview with the admissions office? How did it go?

Is it a bad thing if you haven’t been sent any email or notification yet? :frowning:

@simplyorange,

i believe interviews aren’t held until the week of the 24th and 3rd, so we’ll wait to see then!

@SickofApps I have my interview tomorrow; I was told to schedule for this week (Feb 17-21)
