Hi. I'm currently a junior:) (turning to 17 in October~~ Yee-Haw)

..I was planning to send common applications for all the universities and
one of my friends told me that essays for common applications are
same every year. Is this true?

Should I start writing my college app. essays?
So many things are going on right now. :( dang it!!!

I donno what I'm doing.
I am taking IB math method (Precal) right now and finding it really hard. i mean.... my other friends are taking calculus classes and they say it isn't that hard.
I feel so stupid these days.

I want to be normal.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

are u applying to JHU?

If you're going to apply to JHU, you can get started on your $10 essay. It's been recycled for the past couple years, so it's a safe bet it'll be the same. In regards to the common app, I guess you could get started if you really have the drive to do so. The questions are pretty much the same. Add to the fact that one of the questions lets you pick your own topic.

It should probably be reinterated that if you're applying to Hopkins, it is STRONGLY recommended that you do their essays, and NOT just the common app's.

I would reccomend actually getting the schools individual applications and mailing them in because it shows that you have a greater interest in the school. Plus I beleive that if you submit it through the common application they can see where else you have applied. I may be wrong.

But my advice is to start your applications early and really spend some quality time on your essays--they can make you or break you!

Yes the common application essays are the same every year and there is always the last option on picking your own topics. It is not a bad idea to actually complete the common application over the summer.

Almost all schools that accept the common application have school-specific supplements that are typically not released until the end of the summer. This is true of Johns Hopkins - our supplement is updated over the summer and published at the end of August.

You do not have to complete a school's individual application, and it does not show greater interest. If a school accepts common applications they are contractually obligated to review common apps. the same way as they do their own apps. All admissions officers sign this contract with the common app. each year. (That applying with common app. shows less interest and those apps. are reviewed as weaker candidates is one of the great myths in college admissions.) And no, schools can not see which schools you submit your common app. to.

Johns Hopkins has not yet determined what our school specific essays will be for the coming admissions cycle. We are not sure if we are going with the $10 essay again. And yes, we STRONGLY encourage students to do our own essays as part of the common app. supplement (that does make a difference).

Last, you can absolutely begin your applications over the summer but it is not recommended that you submit anything until the early fall.
