this is a thread for all communication majors...I know its one of the most impacted majors at UCLA, so hopefully we can all help each other out.

If you've applied/plan on applying/been admitted/been rejected post your stats here!

any advice for comm. majors would be greatly appreciated as well

communications is a very popular major and therefore you need the top grades in everything in order to get in. Even that's not a guarantee, but i'm sure u did well. good luck!

I applied as a comm major last year. I had a 3.6 and had completed all my prereqs. I didn't get in...
The funny thing is, when I changed my major to communication, I had no idea it was so impacted. If I had known earlier, I would have focused on another major instead.

I hate it how Comm is such a impacted major.
Once I realized this, I knew I had to do everything that I can to be competitive as possible.

I do agree, make sure to have an alternative major. I believe only UCLA gives you this option if you are in TAP. I know for a fact that UCLA's Comm Program does not give a crap about the TAP program and mos def not give first priority.
But I say still be in it, because it gives you the option in having a back up major in the L&S college, if you do get rejected to the Comm program...

My backup major is: Anthropology (Sociocultural Anthropology)

Anyways, I...

Applied: to all UCs for Fall 2009 (finished all pre-reqs for every school)

for UCLA ( my dream school): fulfilled all 6/7 pre-reqs with "A"s at a C.C.
I even spent 2 grand on a stupid missing pre-req class taken at UCLA with a "B", that no other C.C offered during my years.
So together I finished all 7/7 pre-reqs for UCLA...

I guess more pre-reqs the better

(FYI to future Comm Majors wanting to transfer to UCLA: El Camino now offers all 7/7 pre-reqs for UCLA--- SO GO THERE!!!...)

GPA right now: 3.89

E/C: Internship with a Marketing/Film Producer; volunteer at A.F.I and Los Angeles Film Festival; part-time tutoring job; and volunteering hours at my church; Honor's Program (TAP), PTK, and etc.

Seriously try to get an internship within communication field... Something to write about on your personal statements and it "may" give leverage during the application process, since communications is such an impacted program.

My close friend attended UCSD for the first two years as a communications major and transferred to UCLA hoping to continue the major. She knew how competitive and impacted her major was, so she wisely applied to LA as an asian humanities major and hoped to switch it to her original one once she arrived. Unfortunately comm. was full and they wouldn't allow her to switch. She's stuck with asian humanities but she plans to go to grad school for comm. In the end, graduate school matters more than undergrad anyway.
