What schools have excellent journalism programs specifically broadcasting? I'm looking for a big school with competitive D1 athletics that have great internships/job opportunities for broadcasting students. I've already looked at Syracuse, Mizzou, Alabama, and UNC-Chapel Hill. What other schools should I look at?

Thanks!

Ohio U.

I wish I was as bold as you. I wanted to be a sportswriter since I was in junior high, but quickly realized I would be making no money doing it.

Thanks. There might not be much money in it, but i’d rather make enough money doing what i love than a ton of money doing something that i hate.

Chances are if someone hates a subject they won’t be in it long enough to make a lot of money.

But just be careful. With all the jobs that are being taken away daily (and that has nothing to do with economy) it just wasn’t worth it for me to travel 50 miles to Ohio U (I live in Columbus, OH) and spend $25,000 a year (tuition + dorm), do an UNPAID internship, and MAYBE land a job making $25,000 a year.

Money shouldn’t be the only reason to take a certain major or get a certain job, but it should definitely be in the top 3 or 5 reasons.

And it looks like you are looking at colleges around the country which means you would be paying out of state tuition and dorm which would probably mean you are not getting out of college without a $140,000 student loan, unless you have some scholarships and parent help.

Trust me. I wanted to do that job so bad. But then it just wasn’t meant to be so I wrote down what I think I would enjoy as a career and what money I would need to live my life. Well, it turned out I went the way of my father and grandparents and decided on Finance and $45,000 out of college.

Hope everything works out for you if you do end up sticking with Journalism and anything else you might choose.
