I am an incoming freshman who has previously taken community college classes, specifically Calculus 3 and Linear Algebra. What is the process for getting the units transferred to UCLA? Also, how many units will get transferred, since UCLA is on the quarter system and my cc is on the semester system?

Oh, one more question: if i choose to major in math, will i need to retake those courses? Or will they count towards the lower division requirements?

Your orientation counselors will guide you through it during orientation. Make sure you bring a copy of your cc transcripts with you so they can look up to transfer credits more easily. I believe linear algrebra counts but I’m not sure what calculus 3 is. Is that multivariable? or just regular AB/BC? If you choose to major in math it would be best to call the undergrad math department to see how classes transfer over.

Calc III should give credit for Math 32A & 32B, and Linear Algebra should give credit for Math 33A.

To convert semester units to quarter units, just multiply by 1.5. So if your Calc III class was worth 5 semester units, you would get 7.5 quarter units at UCLA.

If you are awarded credit for Math 32A, 32B, 33A, you would not have to re-take those courses at UCLA. In fact, you CANNOT re-take those courses at UCLA. If you did, it would be considered a duplication of credit and the grade and units from the UCLA classes won’t post to your record.
