My freshman year in high school, not knowing what I was doing, I took an engineering class through my high school but at the community college that's right across the road. I ended up getting a C in the class, since I didn't really care much about school back then. Now, wanting to be a doctor, I'm realizing I might have made a pretty big mistake.

When I applied to the universities I was interested in and got accepted, this showed up on my credit transfer report. I'm nervous because I don't know what to do. I also took writing 121 through the same thing at my high school and now I'm pretty sure I should retake it since med schools aren't a big fan of community college credits. Advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Any grades earned at the college level, including dual enrollment coursework taken while in high school, will be included when computing your GPA by AMCAS.

So the C counts. The good news is that if the course was truly and engineering class (and not chem, bio, math, or phjysics), it won’t be included in your science GPA by AMCAS.

Also you still have plenty of credits to take so there is ample time to earn As to dilute the impact of that C on your GPA.

One or even two or three Cs is not the kiss of death for med schools applications. Stop worrying about it. Besides it’s too late now to do anything about it.

Freshman writing taken at a CC won’t hurt your admission chances one bit–assuming you did well in the class. Since most med schools require or recommend 2 ‘writing intensive’ classes just make sure take a second writing based class at your 4 year college.
