Community College student confusion

I am a first year community college student currently and am confused about transfer requirements. So i am aware that there is igetc and major prep. If I wanted to apply and transfer, do i need to complete both? or one or the other? please help…

You have access to your local CC advisors. You need to meet with them, but pre-read the paperwork they have on the path to transfer to a university. Bring your list of credits with you and what you plan to major in.

my counselors all tell me different things lol

The answers will be different for different transfer targets, so make certain that you are asking about the same targets when you meet with the transfer advisors. That will make it more likely that you will get good advice.

you did not give enough info. You need to say what schools you are considering for xfer and what your intended major may be. Answers vary depending on this.

If you haven’t already, get on assist.org. Best resource for figuring out what you need to transfer into specific schools/majors w/in the California publics.

Alright, business admin to uc berkeley, uc irvine. and business econ to ucla. So now… do i need to complete all major prep, or ge? or both? or one or the other?

Have you looked at the web site provided to you in post #5?

so I typed “ucla business economics transfer” into a search engine and literally the very first link it returned said “To be considered for this major, all of the preparatory courses listed here must be completed by the spring before transfer.” There’s an answer for one school…

really, its not hard to look this up on your own.

im asking for ge’s… if you dont have an answer, then dont post lol thanks

This is what you asked…

Given your attitude, I’m not surprised you find counselors less than helpful. But of course it’s them not you, right?

I think you’re misunderstanding the answer. You have to check the website of each of your target schools to see what they require. If you don’t understand a school’s website, either print out the information and take it to your school’s transfer counselor or call the target school for clarification.

http://www.assist.org will give you listing of major prep courses you need to take for each target UC or CSU for your major. It will also tell you if that campus and major accepts IGETC or if you need to match its GE courses.
