I just applied to the UCs (including UCI, UCSB, UCD, UCSC, UCLA) for fall 2007. I'll be enterring as a junior transfer student.
My main concern is that UCSB does not offer guaranteed on campus housing for transfer students. Does anyone have any suggestions about where to live in Sb?
I recently got into UCI and they have great housing on campus, so I am seriously considering it.
Thanks!

Thats my biggest concern as well. I really want to go to UCLA or Berkeley, and the fact that they offer guaranteed housing really sweetens it.

With SB Im worried that I wont get housing and I dont know anyone down there to get an apt with, and Im not really comfortable moving in with random people off campus.

According to an visitor's session that I attended recently, UC Santa Barbara is saying that although they do not have guaranteed on campus housing this year, pretty much every transfer who requests it will get it. In addition, next year, UCSB will have guaranteed transfer housing.

Yea I heard that too. The single student appartments on campus sound really nice for transfers (good way to meet people). Too bad they didn't guarantee transfer housing for fall 2007...then my decision would be clearly UCSB.

oh thats lame, they guarantee it the year AFTER we apply.

ugh i know...the stupid housing situation is the only thing holding me back (oh yea and I haven't been admitted yet :P

oh and how bout the summer program they have. its called "transitions" or something cheesy, but it sounds pretty good. live in dorms, take a class or two, get adjusted to the campus when its not as busy. anyone here looking into that? i might do it if i end up going there

hmm...i've never heard of that. I'd look into it if I end up going to sb.
is it specifically for transfers or freshmen?

they have two programs, one for freshman, and one for transfers. both cater to each groups different needs, respectively.

I'm a sophomore in one of the residence halls and the floor below me is dedicated entirely to transfer students. They seem to be a pretty close knit group. It's also really not too hard to find housing off campus and they have websites dedicated to finding roommates. You can always meet up with the people you are thinking of moving in with to see if they would be someone you could get along with.

ooh thanks for the insight! What dorm is that in? I was thinking to apply to both the transfer dorms and to the santa ynez apartments. Maybe I'll have a chance to at least get into one! I'm pretty open to either option.

That's in San Rafael. It's 7 stories high right on the outskirts of the campus right on the border with IV. The transfer students are on the 4th floor this year, but that may change year to year.

anyone know how transfer work for winter quarter? are they the same as fall? cause if your planning to transfer for winter its like in the middle of the year when most people transfer in the fall

first thing, you do not get guaranteed admissions for winter but you do for fall.
