Community Service

Which is better (more appealing to colleges)?

 1. Joining a school service club (Key Club, Habitat for Humanity) or other local chapters to do community service

 2. Volunteering independently; not part of service groups

Do most people put hours on their apps?

i think either one is fine

they r both good. i'd think that most people would join Key Club, etc. to do the volunteer work with their peers, and also because they are provided with the volunteer opportunities, whereas individually you have to do a little more research. i dont know much about key club but from what i have heard, its basically Walks, and charty drives, etc (one-time things). if you monitor your own community service my guess is that you would choose one thing and stick with it, like i do (volunteering at a summer camp). my evil HS requires at least 40 hours/year for regular diploma, and 80 hrs to be in Archon. as for your question about which way of obtaining CS that colleges would prefer, i dont know, if i had to make a guess i would pick Key club-esque things, because then the colleges would know you have officially been involved in different things.... ah i dunno. and, as for me i would write a sentence or two about my community service experiences in college essays... it can only help right?
